Below are two excerpts from the following interview link:

Quote:
Back in 1997, you did a video shown for an Elvis Tribute concert in Memphis where you’re doing a duet with your father on “Don’t Cry Daddy.” How did that come about?

I did that because I was tired of being some figure that just comes out, smiles and waves and leaves. I was asked to appear at the tribute concert. I said I’d come. I had this whole vision on this airplane. I think I was flying from New York to Florida and oddly enough I was in the bathroom (laughs) and I had this whole vision. I was gonna call David Foster and I knew the song. I was on the plane and I was thinking about it and I started getting emotional with of the idea. I definitely had that relationship with my fad where I felt a lot of pain and I knew that song would be very meaningful. I loved the song. I called David Foster and told him he needed to produce this thing for me, that it was only a one-time deal. I’m not selling it, I’m not selling out but I just wanted to do something for the fans that night that was something special. David said he’d do it. That was kind of the beginning of the whole deal. It was only done for the fans for that one night. Believe me, that could have been packaged and sold. It actually turned out pretty good I thought.

Lastly, you and your mom picked the songs that comprise the new Elvis By the Presleys CD. How about selecting a few songs by your father that resound strongly on a personal level?

I love “How Great Thou Art” ‘cause that’s what I was around for. I love the earlier stuff, too. I was around and watched him record it and went to all the shows in the seventies. There’s a song called “It’s Over” that killed me. There’s a song called “Mary In the Morning” that I just love. There’s some obscure ones that were never singles. “Separate Ways” wasn’t paid nearly enough attention to as it should have been. It’s really beautiful. I love “Just Pretend,” that killed me. I also love “You Gave Me A Mountain” too.

Great to know Lisa's favourite songs of her dad.

I also like It's over and seperate ways a lot.

And Mary in the morning is just sooo beautiful.

Thank you, Laurie!

It is so interesting to see how Lisa Marie expresses herself, so freely, direct and honestly. To me, she is too "one of a kind". :P

Glad to read that "Just Pretend" is one of Lisa's favorites of her daddy's songs. It is one of mine as well, and I think a couple other ELC members too, as I recall from earlier posts.
"Mary in the Morning" is a very beautiful song. Elvis sings its so perfectly.
Was also pleased to read of her love for How Great Thou Art, such a moving gospel song, as it reveals her openess to the spiritual realm.

In reading the article, Lisa states that she got into Scientology when she was age 10, so just after Elvis' death. I do wonder had Elvis not died so young if Lisa would have gotten so heavily involved in Scientolgoy, as that was Priscilla's interest.

Probably not. She told another time of having the realization that she had lost her dad and wouldn't ever have him back alive again when she was at "camp" which was one of those type camps for kids. She "lost it" is how she put it or near that way, been a while. She would be open to the spiritual because she is spiritual herself and has had experiences and I'm certain she has had some with her father since and will continue to have them. She doesn't talk about it-but one can't blame her as her mom and friends who are into that ST thing would not be so "open" to such things...from what I understand from him, they did not believe in such things.
He however, having had experiences his whole life since old enough to recall things, did believe and nothing would change that for him. He lived it daily-he couldn't deny it or else have to say he was "nuts" and mean it. He said if some people (he didn't specifiy) knew what he actually thought and felt, they'd have him certified a squirril and put him away somewhere in a cage...and he wasn't kidding. Lisa I think is truly one with her father in so many ways...and I believe she knows it and likes it. wjh

Thanks so much for posting the link to this interview Laurie. :D It was very interesting to read and to find out some of what is in Lisa'a heart. :D I agree with Amanda in that she does express herself in a very free and direct manner. It's also nice to hear which of her daddy's songs have special meaning to her. :D She chose 2 of my favorites--How Great Thou Art which like Laurie said does show her openness to things of a spiritual nature and the other Mary In The Morning---well, I guess that kinda goes without saying. :D
