It calls my attention how so many people -not so close to him as you were, Wanda- comments in many interviews I have read, that they were quite surprised about that quality in Elvis, his acuracy, his intelligency and clarity of thinking. And his wide unexpected knowledge on many, many matters.
Probably, the dull roles he had to play along so many years in his movies, gave a plain impression of his capacities, with very rare exceptions. |
I've noticed the same thing you mentioned Amanda about how many people have seemed so shocked at how truly intelligent or well thought out Elvis was and have wondered myself if the roles he had to portray on film caused people to believe that he wasn't capable of anything more than that?? Just goes to show you how little people know or how little time they want to take in finding out who somebody REALLY is. |

That and he was innocently honest in the beginning and the media thought because of his shyness, his lack of guile and duplicity, his childish trust in their integrity, that he was "dumb, a country hick etc:" and that was what got around-then the Col. wouldn't let him talk anymore without his coaching and presence-so the media lashed him even more-and Elvis would throw that line out from then on, even in that New York interview when asked about his popularity etc: he stood up and said, "Well, I don't know, got this belt-etc:' and he'd say, "I'm just a country boy, don't know 'bout these things." And used humor to get out of questions he would rather not answer. When asked if his wife was with him etc: after they separated, he said very carefully, and it was easy to see he wasn't happy with that question, "No she's not." and that was it. He learned the hard way, and still he tended to trust certain ones in the media and there were some who took advantage of that but Elvis didn't appear to believe or want to believe they would. Like he was with so many people he thought were friends because he thought he was their friend-and he was... but he was not dumb, dense or confused he merely wanted to see the best in everyone and because he wasn't deceptive, he didn't see it in others. He was always hurt, surprised and didn't understand why when someone decieved him or wronged him by betraying his trust-he couldn't understand and nine times out of ten he would offer an excuse for them, cover for them and shrug it off as nothing.
I was reading through some of the pages of the Bible he gave Jimmie that has some underlined things in it where Elvis had used it, took it with him to Vegas he said and then someone gave him a couple of new Bibles so he was using them as they had more informative study guides in them. He liked reading other people's ideas about things. Anyway, I found where he had underlined about love-which is called "charity" in this Bible and Elvis has written the newer modern version using "love" in it's place.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered. It keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not rejoice in evils but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserveres. It forgives those who wrong it and comforts those in need." And he has added his own thoughts: "Love conquers all, when all seems lost." _________________ Wanda June Hill

JUST PRECIOUS. This last sentence touched my heart deeply. (And I'm saying this while seeing white butterflies flying in my garden right now). Dear Elvis/El'vis! _________________ Amanda Viola

Such precious and loving words(especially the very last line ) from such a precious and loving heart! Thank you so much Wanda for sharing this with us and it's so VERY easy to see how Elvis lived up to these words to the best of his ability all throughout his life. |

Oh Wanda, your poolside chat with our Elvis made me belly laugh so hard my sides hurt. I read it to my husband and he laughed too. I love the way you give it right back to that precious, but precocious man/boy. Thanks for the laughs Miss Wanda. _________________ Walk gently, speak softly and let the radiance of your soul speak for you. |

The first time I met him he had me blushing several times! And then he did it a few more times but then I got "wise" to his sense of humor-crazy and off the wall as it could be, as well as down right suggestive, onery, silly and even a bit outrageous and lewd here and there. Anything to get a laugh, a shock or cause some uproar from someone...and he often pulled those things out of his bag of tricks on the spot-without warning.
But then we became friends, I the listener and he the talker mostly- and I learned to shut up and let him talk. That was the hardest part for me, keeping my mouth shut until he finished. Some times he had run-off-at-the-mouth and talked so fast it was like a machine gun or something- other times he was laid back and lazy and very cool...or sultry what ever was the "mood for the moment"- that was him. I liked him when he was about to go to sleep because he was like an open book more... and he would sometimes tell just about anything at all...and snicker and giggle.
I had his "number down" pretty well by the end of the first year and into the second- by then he was more relaxed and stopped being "nice" and "careful of what he said"...he'd swear and say some ribold things more. And we laughed so much at times my tears ran down my face- and it was awful a time or two because I couldn't stop laughing and he couldn't either...he ended up on the floor laughing, and hitting the floor. That was funny- I wish I could have been there to SEE him laughing like that and giggling and snickering. I am jealous of people who had that opportunity and I never will...except on cds and film. But I have him laughing on stage in my memory so that's a big plus right there. Still, to be there to see him cracking up... it would be fun!
Sorry I haven't posted much, keep being told by the computer/website that I am not logged in as my pass word or name is wrong??? Other times it's fine- so must just be my computer fighting with it's self- word and office doc. They have to "work together" to work at all-Word doesn't like having "partners".
Also been dentist sitting, cat caring, kitten caring and dog caring- plus me caring too. Not up to all of this at once...
Mike Wright had his brother die, I can't find him on Candlelight but he sent emails and he needs prayer and our help in dealing with this- he was his favorite brother who also loved Elvis very much. He might be a member of ELC- I didn't check that yet.

You never fail in bringing me in your and Elvis' presence, laughs included, when I read you, Wanda...
Sorry for the tricky Forum registration that stops you from being here to your pleasure. Hope it'll be soon solved.
As for Mike, there goes a cloud of GOLDEN LOVE's BUBBLES to confort him and to soothe pain, to convert it into Hope and Joy of Life very soon.
