“When I first heard Elvis' voice I just knew that I wasn’t going to work for anybody; and nobody was going to be my boss...Hearing him for the first time was like busting out of jail.”
Bob Dylan

My emoticons don't seem to be working this afternoon, apologies!

I have friends who are seeing Bob Dylan this week, and they are sooo excited. They are from that era and kind of hippy's and ride a motorcyce at times, etc: and are really nice friends. Have horses too. But to hear her talking about seeing Bob Dylan! It's fun. I am going to run off the portion of cd that Elvis sings Dylan and then says "Dylan!" right after-they'll love it. If I have the time-I'm trying to tape cds for JulieSharonRose and have to do it a round Jimmie's tv watching as the equipment is all in the same place and room. He's a big tv fan and is really intrigued by the political crap-eh excuse me! Information going on now- I go in my room when that's on and "play" with my "toys"-computer-book etc:.wjh

Thanks for the feedback, Wanda! Hope your friends have a great time! I like Bob Dylan's songs but not his voice one bit! Still, each to his/her own, sure wouldn't do to be all the same!

Hope you get to do all you need to, Wanda, have fun!

Dylan Said about Elvis' death " I broke down... I went over my whole life. I didnt talk to anyone for a whole week after Elvis died. If it wasnt for Elvis and Hank Williams I wouldnt be doing what I am doing today."

The thing about Dylan is that yes his voice is hideous but when he sings you truely believe what he is singing is true and that it means much more that just words i mean read this song...it hurts my heart its called

"Tryin To Get to Heaven"
The air is getting hotter
There's a rumbling in the skies
I've been wading through the high muddy water
With the heat rising in my eyes
Every day your memory grows dimmer
It doesn't haunt me like it did before
I've been walking through the middle of nowhere
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door

When I was in Missouri
They would not let me be
I had to leave there in a hurry
I only saw what they let me see
You broke a heart that loved you
Now you can seal up the book and not write anymore
I've been walking that lonesome valley
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door

People on the platforms
Waiting for the trains
I can hear their hearts a-beatin'
Like pendulums swinging on chains
When you think that you lost everything
You find out you can always lose a little more
I'm just going down the road feeling bad
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door

I'm going down the river
Down to New Orleans
They tell me everything is gonna be all right
But I don't know what "all right" even means
I was riding in a buggy with Miss Mary-Jane
Miss Mary-Jane got a house in Baltimore
I been all around the world, boys
Now I'm trying to get to heaven before they close the door

Gonna sleep down in the parlor
And relive my dreams
I'll close my eyes and I wonder
If everything is as hollow as it seems
Some trains don't pull no gamblers
No midnight ramblers, like they did before
I been to Sugar Town, I shook the sugar down
Now I'm trying to get to heaven before they close the door

Yes, Dylan brings beautiful and powerful images to his songs. He is a great poet, besides a fine musician.

He was able to feel Elvis in his heart and I appreciate him very much for it, the same way I do appreciate so many others big names that recognize the big impact Elvis produced in their lives -and they are being true, you can see it in their expression.

Dylan has stated many times Elvis' impact. though they never met Dylan invisioned the meeting and wrote a song about it. its called Went to see the gypsy and this is the only song Dylan mentions his far away childhood.

Went to see the gypsy,
Stayin' in a big hotel.
He smiled when he saw me coming,
And he said, "Well, well, well."
His room was dark and crowded,
Lights were low and dim.
"How are you?" he said to me,
I said it back to him.

I went down to the lobby
To make a small call out.
A pretty dancing girl was there,
And she began to shout,
"Go on back to see the gypsy.
He can move you from the rear,
Drive you from your fear,
Bring you through the mirror.
He did it in Las Vegas,
And he can do it here."

Outside the lights were shining
On the river of tears,
I watched them from the distance
With music in my ears.

I went back to see the gypsy,
It was nearly early dawn.
The gypsy's door was open wide
But the gypsy was gone,
And that pretty dancing girl,
She could not be found.
So I watched that sun come rising
From that little Minnesota town.

Funny they never met-Elvis said that he went to see him perform...but most likely he had to sneak in and then sneak out to do it-he didn't say where he saw him that I can remember. I know he liked his lyrics alot and he had a book of them someone had made for him-the pages typed on handmade paper and he had to tell me how it was made with onion skins and potatoe peelings cooked down and then spread thin and dried slowly under a wire press etc;...then rolled out flat, sprinkled with colored dye so it would be mottled looking he said, then dried again and pressed out until it was flat and dry. Then they typed the pages up and it was hand sewn together with a thicker paper back and a ribbon was then sewed over the bound edges to make it a booklet. He was very proud of it-all the work the person had gone to to do that for him. Then he read some of the poems Dylan had written and sang one of them that he liked and I can not think of the name of it-but he did record it I think...
and did it on stage. Somebody out there will know which that is! Please? wjh

Wanda, it's "Tomorrow Is A Long Time" and is one of my favorites of Elvis' songs.

Yes in Dylan's book he said that he was so proud of himself that Elvis Presley liked a song he wrote enough to record it, and after Elvis passed away Dylan recorded it and would proudly say that Elvis recorded this song before he sang it in concert everytime
