Just to prove you can't take me anywhere!

Postby Rainbow Light » Sun Sep 28, 2008 6:25 am

My brother, his friend Liz and her parents, me and Mom went out last night; by a coincidence my Mom and Liz's Mom share the same birthday (26th Sept), had a great day but we went out for a meal for a double celebration!

We booked as a Saturday night and was very busy but good service, considering! Anyways, the salmon fillet I had with new potatoes and seasonal vegetables was really lovely and well worth waiting for! However, trust me!, I went to sprinkle some lemon juice over the salmon, could'n't get but a couple of drops out so bent the skin back to exert a little pressure and it went flying backwards! I was looking for it under my chair and around the table where I was sitting only to hear the young waiter saying "Excuse me Madam, but is this yours"?!  He had a big silly grin from ear to ear but was kinda   specially with so many people dining all around us, most of whom were giving me silly smiles too!

Just to prove you can't take me out anywhere but at least I could make people smile and not cry! :)

Sue my dear friend I'm so glad that you and your family and your brother's friend and her mom were able to go out and celebrate both of their birthdays together! :D It sounds like you had a really nice time, and as far as the whole "slippery lemon ordeal" please don't feel badly sweet angel. :) While I can certainly understand you feeling somewhat   I think there's another way you can look at what happened. Like you said, you were able to make people smile in spite of what happened and no matter what the circumstances may be, if you can make someone smile then it's worth it! :P :D I know our dear Elvis felt that way--even saying so some times during some of his Vegas shows in '69 that went something like: "Before the night is over I will have made a complete and total fool of myself and I hope you get a kick outta watchin' it." :P  Thank you so much dear lady for sharing this with us and for making me smile!! :D :D

Rainbow Light,
That's a funny story. I hate when those things happen. Your story reminds me of Julia Roberts in the movie Pretty Woman when Richard Gere takes her fine dining with a man and his son. She had never seen escargot before. She watches what everyone else is doing. When she finally gets the snail shell in the tongs it slips and goes flying across the restaurant. The waiter catches it as it flies. She is embarrassed and comes out with "Slippery little sucker, isn't it"? I laughed myself silly over that line.

When I first met my husband John many years ago his parents asked if we wanted to go to dinner in Boston proper. We went to a very nice place and I ordered swordfish. In the meantime the waiter brought out a bowl of lemons all wrapped so pretty in netting with pretty little bows. When my dinner arrived I proceeded to take a lemon from the bowl and unwrap it. John's mom was just looking at me sort of in a funny way. I unwrapped my lemon and squeezed it over my swordfish. Well, one of the seeds flew and hit John's father right in the face. I was mortified! John leaned over and whispered to me that I wasn't supposed to unwrap the lemon. The lemon was in netting so the seeds wouldn't fly when when squeezed. I wanted to crawl in a hole somewhere. My face was a scarlet color. John and his parents were laughing so as to put me at ease. What did I know, I was a country girl who wasn't used to fine dining.

I love to hear stories like yours Rainbow Light. They just make me belly laugh. Thanks for sharing. :)
