Both Amnesty and Red Cross deal also with people who are political prisoner or, more often or not, those who are persecuted because of their spiritual beliefs. Not just persecuted but also tortured many a time too. So sad to know and realise so many suffer in so many ways in 2006 for what they believe and have faith in.

Also please consider prayers for their release and your thoughts and love for them and their families too?

Give to our Middle East crisis appeal

Our partners in the Middle East are at the forefront of the current crisis which is affecting civilians in Lebanon, Israel and Gaza.

In Lebanon, where thousands of people are on the move after intensive bombing, partners are providing food, water, medicine and accommodation.

In Gaza, air-raids have damaged electricity and water supplies. Clean water is scarce and there is an increased threat of disease from untreated sewage.

With your help our partners in the region will be able to provide water tanks to affected areas and distribute food or medicines to the poorest families.

We'll be involved in the long-term, helping rebuild affected communities and re-establish our partners' development work.

You're welcome, Fran - it's hard to believe that in 2006 people are tortured in the world for their faith, beliefs etc and purely for being a certain way, color or creed so anything anyone can do to end hatred and prejudice of any kind in the world has got to be of much benefit!
