He had two with light blue bodies and white sleeves and collars, and two with white bodies and light blue sleeves and collars. He had two or three belts he could wear with them...one had eagles and what looked like presidential seals or something similar on them with the chains. Those 4 suits were worn nearly thread bare in 76 only toward the last part of the year did he start switching to another suit maybe when the other's didn't get back from the cleaners or he was getting tired of hearing the griping about those same suits at every show! We must have seen them both at least 7 times that year! All the pictures looked alike because of those suits! Same necklace, same suit! He liked the prehistoric birds as he called them-they were the Eqyptian symbols for "life" and used in the tombs where royalty was buried and they had the "honor" of looking after them and protecting them from harm etc; he said and that they "carried their spirits up to the sun God whom they worshipped" but he said the Sun God was actually the infininte all mighty wisdom and power of the Father of the Universe...known as our Lord and God the Father. Those suits were so beautifully detailed-all of them were but it seemed that the ones he wore in 76,77 were the most meaningful as far as spiritual messages go of any he wore. Especially so, the Sun Dial Suit that was the last one he specificially wanted done-it took a year to do nearly, and there was another that was in the works but never got to the decorating stage. It's too bad that the sketches he made for it were not displayed -at least not when we were at Graceland in 80. There were some drawings there...but they did not depict the last suit and I can't recall what he called it or what it was to have on it and it was not taped...so no transcripts either. It was very, very spiritual and came from the Bible-that's all I can recall now...he hadn't quite got everything in that he was trying for-but they were going to be royal blue and white and was going to have lots of colorful jewels and rhinestones and religious symbols from several different cultures all of them to send a message to those who saw them-especailly those receptive to the message-he said. And that he was the "light bearer"...what that meant, I do not have a clue now...I wish I did. I would like him to come and tell me again...in detail more than he did. But so far-zip. wjh _________________ Wanda June Hill

WANDA IS SEEN ON THE INSIDERS CLUB A PICTURE THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE THE SUIT HE WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE WORN IN '77, AND THEY SAID IT WAS CALLED THE LASER SUIT. BECAUSE WHEN THE SPOT LIGHTS HIT THE SUIT IT WAS SUPPOSE TO LOOK LIKE LASER LIGHTS COMING FROM THE SUIT. I HAD A PICTURE OF IT BUT I DON'T NOW, IS THAT ONE YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT? Here is another pic with one of his 1976 jumpsuits:

Yeah, funny isn't it that at Oral Robert's University-a Christian and Bible based university, he was working under threat of someone going to "shoot" him "kill him" etc: and he was told not to do the show-to cancel but he refused. He was also pulled half off the stage in Oklahoma City and his nose bloodied-but he finished the show after wiping off the blood and holding it up to show the people saying, "Look what you did to me." wjh _________________ Wanda June Hill

WITH THIS AND OTHER INCIDENTS TO TELL OF INCLUDING DEATH THREATS WHICH SEEMED TO BE SO COMMON; ELVIS, RIGHTLY DID NOT LET THESE THREATS GET TO HIM AND COURAGEOUSLY CONTINUED, GIVING HIS ALL TO HIS AUDIENCES, EVEN AT GREAT COST AND WORRY TO HIMSELF AND THOSE WHO CARED FOR HIM. AT THE SAME TIME,
AS HAPPY AND PROUD AS EVER TO BE LOVING ELVIS!!! _________________ Seeks to encourage and inspire! |

I don't know Barb-he had one that was dark blue with flat disks of silver all over it that reflected light but if there was something new-you can bet he'd have it on.
The suit he was talking about was not finished-he died before it was decorated-it was to have ancient writings on it that would "strike chords" in people receptive whether they realized it or not-it would "awaken" them.
I can remember only a little about what he said, darn it...
but I do know much of the symbolic design of it came from the ancient Bible writings...he was reading about that and had received some things from somewhere that had photos of ancient Bible writings that were in translation, what he wanted on his suit...he got them so he could see the writing and have it put on correctly-he said he wouldn't want something on there saying "F....off you fool!" in ancient scrilpt! Leave it to Elvis to think of that! Anway, He had the scoop necked suits, the feathers and whatever dark ones and they were "louder" every time he had some done-I had not even heard him mention the Sundial suit except in general talking about it because there was something on tv about it and the Inca years...etc:. And too, he talked of his career being "ruled by the sun"...and had a long list of events during his life that related directly to the sun-the month of the Sun etc; and sun related things...and he was quite convincing. There there he was, his last year wearing the final year calendar on his clothes. Did he know-sure he knew...he just didn't know the exact day it would be... if he had, he would have planned something for that too. As it was, nothing he could have immagined would have been anything like what did happen-all those people, all over the world-he would have been stunned speechless- that would have been a sight-Elvis speechless! That's not fair, often he was unable to say a word...even if he wanted to...he just couldn't get it out. wjh _________________ Wanda June Hill

DID YOU EVER HEAR HIM STUTTER ALOT WANDA, BLESS HIS SWEET PREIOUS SOUL. I KNOW IN ONE OF THE LAST CONCERTS I SEEN. HE STARTED TO STUTTER, AND J.D. WAS OVER THERE TRING NOT TO LAUGH. I FELT SO SORRY FOR HIM! I WAS TRING TO HELP HIM ALL I COULD TO GET THE WORDS OUT, BUT ELVIS HE STARTED TO SNICKER HIMSELF AND SAID I'M SOUNDING LIKE MEL TILLIS. Yes I did a few times, when he really wanted to say something, couldn't get the word to come out right or rushed too much...he talked fast most of the time, unless he wanted to think as he spoke, or was kicking back trying to relax and reading or reciting something he wanted to make a point on. But "rile" him up and he'd spout words out like a machine gun at times-or if he wanted to get it out quick and over with... I liked him best when he was about to go to sleep...then he was more relaxed and often very funny...giggling at himself and he then would stutter more as he wasn't in "full control" and relaxing more than normally. What was funny not laughing funny, maybe I should say unusual-about him was he gave the impression most of the time of being very cool, in control and kind of languidly moving or walking, but it was almost like and illusion or something, because the next minute he might be jiggling his foot, a hand or fidgeting a way...while giving the impression of just the opposite. Weird guy, maybe there were two men inside that body! wjh _________________ Wanda June Hill

Many thanks for further insights into our precious Elvis' character, Wanda! and also very interesting about the suit that you mentioned that would have had ancient writings on it, that would have been something else I'm sure - now wonder if he'd have been able to get the chance to have explained the significance of the writings to the audience, that could have proved real interesting too!
Made me smile though about him not wanting something that translated as cussing someone out though - yeah, leave that to Elvis! _________________ Seeks to encourage and inspire! |
