explaining ?

Postby Wanda June Hill » Thu May 11, 2006 6:23 pm

I don't know how he would have explained bringing a young teen into his household-a "total stranger" to all but him according to some of those around there-but hed done it before so I guess maybe it wouldn't have presented any problem for him-normal yet. Lisa was just 9 years old-maybe he wanted some one a bit older whom he had "influenced" to know his daughter-someone who lived "out there" and still knew his life circumstances and happenings??? I don't know what he had in mind other than he must have thought about it some because he knew all the answers to my questions right off the bat-knew what I would ask and how to answer them. Even to informing me that he would be there to "look after her, take care of her and nothin' would happen to her" he would see to that. And I never doubted that he wouldn't keep his word. It was odd and I pondered over it and then Starla made the decision because we couldn't say no-I mean good grief, we would have never heard the end of it and she would have been so so angry probably forever-if we had flat out said no way. Instead she got to make the decision and she chose to stay with her team-loyalty he understood and accepted then said, maybe when it was over and you all have won, then there would be time and she said okay. And he was okay with that-but he was his daughter's playmate during that last summer visit-he didn't bring anyone else there for her to play with it was just him and Ginger-and Lisa driving around in the yard while telling people "My daddy's dead" and calling Linda Thompson and not calling her mother first...
I have heard that Lisa didn't talk to her mom until after she spoke with Linda-and I thought that was odd-but then may by then Pris was on her way to Memphis-but she did wait for Elvis' plane to pick her up-and wouldn't let anyone else ride on it with her. I'm not saying that is a dyed in the wool fact-but so many of the "others" have said that...an entire airplane and she was the only one on it. While they scrambed for tickets or drove back on their own. She didn't want Ginger and Linda in the procession either-and critized Linda for wearing Lavender-which Elvis asked that they wear-no black-he didn't want any black-... But I guess public opinion and "protcol" took first there. I try, but just can't keep my trap shut sometimes. sorry guys, I am no "fine" example so don't ever expect it from me! wjh

I think Julie's loyalty for friends saved her.. that would've been such a terrible experience for a young one and after spending few days there seeing that wonderful man with his daughter, the daddy Elvis, then loosing him that suddenly.. well Priscilla has such a huge ego, I read that plane thing in Ed Parker's book too.I don't want to remember that American Idol visit but, this black dress reminded me a very short scene a friend posted from the event..she was showing Elvis's grave to so called idols with an attitude as if she was showing just another room, pointing out the stone..chilled my blood..God! that show made me upset so that it gave me a migraine attack for two days..

Sometimes when I read about what is going on at Graceland, I sometimes wish it had never been opened at all. But I guess Elvis thought that maybe giving half of Graceland to Priscilla for Lisa when she got older, that Lisa would come back to Memphis and make Graceland a home like Elvis really wanted it to remain. But I'm sorry if all that is going to happen is Graceland to become a Place for Priscilla to FLAUT! I HOPE I SPELLED THAT RIGHT, like a Shopping Mall. I wish it would have never been opened. I plan on going to Graceland nexted year way before August 16th, because I hope at least when I go I can feel that it is still Elvis's home that it should be now. Barb!!

same here.. though I've never been there and dying to be,and this is such a big dream for me to be there at least for once,I'd be more happy to know it is still the home for Elvis's kid and grands to live in..just the grave area must be open to visitors I think and that would be enough for me than to see it turned to an amusement park that can be hired by entertainment companies.

I saw the clip too where she stands at the grave. It was the very first time i saw Priscilla standing in front of his tomb, it was weird. I've been there and saw a lot of fans grieving and crying and kneeling and making a little cross but she stood there like it was nothing at all no big deal. I think she will give more attention to her dog's grave(so to speak) I felt so angry still do

Once I liked her, I must have been blind

I haven't seen this footage so guess I shouldn't judge really BUT in a way I'm glad I didn't see it from what you all have said. Had heard of the plane incident before and it does show Pris to have a mighty big ego. However, to be so cold and emotionless around the grave area when she introduced these so-called 'idols' really does stink!

Apart from the 20th/25th/30th Elvis Weeks in August and visiting times like Elvis' birthday specially when he would have turned 70 etc, I don't think the visiting figures are even half of what this new company thinks it should be so now they're going to do 'anything it takes' to change Graceland and the shopping area/plane/car museum etc however they want so it's just a case of raking in the BIGGEST bucks they can.

I don't think the mansion itself really is tidied or cared for all that much, they make sure the FRONT LAWNS where everyone can see are carefully maintained but don't feel there's any real care or emotion put into cleaning round the side or back, me and my Elvis fan buddy, were taking tissues into the house and going round dusting and cleaning up as far as we could! Not to help the Estate or Sillerman Industries, oh no - but in memory of our Elvis and knowing how that home was his sanctuary and somewhere he could return to, couldn't help it!

dirty Graceland!

Postby Wanda June Hill » Fri May 12, 2006 9:35 pm

Gosh you mean they don't have the maids working there who kept things spotless anymore? That's not a good thing. When we were there it was spotless and the same maids were working and Aunt Delta was there and so was Grandma dodger at that time-I can't believe they'd just fall off on keeping it dusted etc;. Things will ruin if they do that. I know her picture is plastered around bigger than anything of Elvis except for the one big painting. She's even on the wall in where the cars are!
I just dont know what to think-Elvis liked things clean-his mom kept things clean even when they had a dirt floor!
And she taught him to be clean-neat and take care of things properly...even his clothes were just so in the closets. oh well, what can be said-she is after all getting older and may be losing it a bit too- I am and I'm 5 years older than her. So...could happen-she's had a much fuller, busier life in lots of ways...than I. wjh

The maids? Not as far as I could tell, think they have the Graceland staff who do some of the outside work, but didn't notice inside much, no and it is a shame. Unfortunately, some (not all I'm pleased to say) of the
Graceland staff's attitudes leave something to be desired too but from what I could see they tend to rotate the tasks around so that perhaps one girl who has been on the till at one of the shops one day is then moved on another day to be a guide round the mansion so I would think it would enable a pretty varied job including the security staff at the gate.

Graceland

Postby Wanda June Hill » Sat May 13, 2006 5:46 pm

I've talked to a few people who have worked there and they loved it. Especially liked taking care of his things for him, and they enjoyed the people. I guess it could be come a real drag if they did the same thing all of the time. We were a bit put back by the fact some of the things being told by guides were not true, but then I guess they figure most people don't know the truth so what does it matter. It didn't take away from anything, it's just we noticed.
I certainly don't want to see the place turn into a big zoo affair, however with the tornado's coming close and into that area of the country bigger and stronger than ever it makes me worry more about Graceland fallling to a big storm and then just imagine-all his things scattered here and yon, many lost for ever most likely. But he would just say, "there just things...really, so I just let it go".
And maybe that is what might have to be done. I hope not! It's scary what the world's climate is doing right now-and most people do not even realize what that huge earthquake really did to our earth. I mean it was so big it moved the entire islands more than 100 feet from where they originally were! And tilted the earth slightly, only degrees but enough to move the equator!
Our climate is now so different-it's may and we are having the june glooms we normaly have in late June.
We have had 40 degree nights and 90 degree days here already and it's just weird. We wake up to fog and by noon the sun is blazing and drying up every living plant that has not water source. Our pasture is usually green and lush but it's already drying up and nothing is able to make it for long in the sun...and the wind-we have more dry winds coming in early each day- Sometimes the house shakes like it's been hit when they first start up.
And all the tornados in Texas-could it be a knock on Bush's door? I have a feeling the huricanes are going to be something else- They say we here on the Pacific coast are due to have some again-it's been 73 years and they normally hit over here some where in the 70
75 year marks. So, at least we are on very high ground
it might blow hard but we won't be flooded. I have to get my earthquake kit up to date-I have some stuff but not like I used to have-and should do that. We have a water supply source (big barrals and containers) for the horses and ourselves in case the water lines go bad and they would in a big quake. But we need to eat too, and a place to have shelter so, got to get to that. you all should have such things also, one never knows. not in todays era. wjh

i know what you mean Wanda, here in vrginia we are having warm days and cold nights. but all we have to do is read the Bible, TO KNOW WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON. WE ARE IN THE LAST DAYS, THIS OLD EARTH IS TIRED AND WHORE OUT. I KNOW WITH THE WAR, AND THE WEATHER BEING SO CRAZY. THAT THE LORD IS SURELY SOON TO COME BACK. AS FAR AS WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH GRACELAND, AND HOW PRISCILA IS ACTING. I HOPE TO GOD HER PICTURE ISN'T PLASTERED EVERY WHERE, THAT WOULD JUST ABOUT DO IT FOR ME. LIKE I SAID EARLIER I WISHED THAT GRACELAND WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN OPENED TO THE PUBLIC. BARB!!

There is so much going on all over the world in terms of the weather, natural disasters and so on that I do wonder sometimes if we are approaching the Last Days. Hope not just yet but it is pretty scary with all that IS going on! But then, surely, we do need to refer back to the Bible, pray and turn to the Lord, 'Somebody Bigger Than You or I', maybe sounds too simple and/or naive?

While so much of what goes on in today's world is mankind's doing and this has been free will as granted by God; as always, I believe He knows and sees All that goes on in our world and can/will help if we only turn to Him in our hearts and in our prayers.
