Elvis' hands

Postby Blue Moon » Mon Jul 17, 2006 12:08 am

You've really captured the beauty of his hands, Zey. He has such long smooth slender fingers --on hands which would reach out & touch many people.

It behooves one to sense God as dwelling within each of us, rather than as some distant entity, far above and seemingly beyond our reach.

Here, there's another one that loves his hands. :D

I think that probably he used his hands to produce some signs, to send some kind of energy to his audience. It made me think like that to observe some unusual gestures of his fingers, like that one, where he closes his hand, all but thumb and little finger, and directs the hand toward the audience.

I have taken notice also, that he was very much capable to use both hands, not being a commun right handed person.

These special gestures of the hands are called "mudras" in Sanskrit (old Vedic laguage of India) and they have special meanings.

As I have practised Karate for 5 years I know that some of Elvis hand-gestures on stage are Karate-techniques. But as Elvis is performing them they are more graceful and MORE than just a technique! 8)

Thank you Christine, for bringing that notion about "mudras". My impression is that Elvis was sending energy to his audience with the gesture I mentioned -hand closed, thumb and little finger extended.

If you get some new information about it, I'd appreciate to know more of "mudras" meaning.

Best wishes. :D

Yes, Zey, I really love it, Karate, but now I make a break, so many other things to do. I think that Elvis` practice of Karate has very much contributed to his stage - presence. Ed Parker explained this beatifully in his book "Inside Elvis".

Amanda, I´ll let you know whenever I get any information about Elvis` mudras of his hands.
Concerning the fist with little finger and thumb outstretched (which he showed at the end of the Aloha-concert) I somehow remember that I read, that someone said that its meaning is "I am your brother". It came like a memory flash yesterday after I had read your question.
But I`m not 100% sure .....anyway, this would be a nice gesture and message and typical of Elvis, too :)

Thank you, Christine! :D

If that is true, it's beautiful and touching. And yes, very Elvis too. It moves me to realize how much he used all his means to GIVE.
