Elvis - A Lighted Candle

I was an atheist all my life and recently joined a church because of Elvis's influence through his music, especially but not only his gospel music.

When I say "Elvis can bring people closer to God", I am not necessarily talking about Christianity. I mean he can start people on a spiritual search. I am currently particularly interested in Buddhism, but am also looking at Baha'i and other interfaith or inclusive religions.

Yes, indeed, this is true.

Hope that whichever path you should take or even a blend of faiths will bring to you whatever you should need in life. There are so many pathways to God and whichever you choose will be of some help, I am sure.

Me too I believe Elvis brings us closer to God.
Since a few days - when I read My impersonal Life - I became more aware of the light within me.
Whenever now I have a question, I first turn within me and make a link to the heartcenter and to God, because He told me 'we are one and the same.'

At this moment I have lots of grief but I turned to Maia's website and saw 'Bridge over Troubled Water'.
At the end of this message there's a short message of Elvis himself.
There are a few different messages hidden in this one.
For me it was clear he wanted to tell me that - I - at this very moment was a messenger to someone.
He did let me know in his message that at this very moment I have to bring much joy and happiness and comfort. Although it caused me just an hour ago so much heartache and strife, somehow I gave this person happiness and joy. My petty problems are indeed tiny thorns on the rose.

Yesterday I rcvd from the person in question a rose on my cellphone?

Many Thanks to all of you and to my special friends of above. Although the circumstance hurts tremendously, it's fine to know you all are there, it gives me the courage to carry on.

Love the picture and Elvis had such beautiful, deep and soulful eyes which shone with the light and love of God. Also, shows so much of his capacity for love as Maia says.

I understand the link, Nikki and what you were saying about the rose.

Haven't checked out Maia's website and the 'Bridge' message yet but will do as I had not been aware of this.

I know sometimes situations can seem confusing and you are unsure what to do or where to go. But you are connecting to the heartcenter and turning over questions you have to God which is the very best thing you can do especially when in the world many other voices seem to be competing for your attention, trying to give you the best advice! or trying to tell you the best course of action!

Last year I was working in a dead end lonely job. I was feeling at a low ebb and I prayed to God to help me sort out my life and overcome the lonlieness I felt. Not long after I bought a cheap cd at my local shop. “How Great thou art”. I had never had any interest whatsoever in Elvis and didn’t even know he sang Gospel. Anyway that was the start. I listened to the cd and nothing has touched me so much. I felt so uplifted. Since then I have accumulated lots of his music. I listen every day, his music, his voice just transcends me. It touches every emotion. I feel so much happier now and my husband tells me the same. I feel more worth as a person, I feel I am worthy of Gods love. My belief and faith in God has deepened also. I was so overwhelmed with what had happened since I prayed to God that one night when I finished work and switched off the lights I stood in the darkness and said “please let me know your helping me, just let me know, I need to know” the next day I was generally scanning thru e-bay as you do and I came across an album for sale called “His hand in mine” with the face of elvis between the clouds and the sun. It was signed in my name from Elvis Presley. Of course I won the item. One other occurrence I recall I was feeling upset over something and when I closed my eyes he was there and said “come to me” and I felt a lovely warmth all around me and a feeling of a very soft cushion encircling me. When I opened my eyes I felt better and fell to sleep.
I applied for a job as a special escort with disabled people which I have always wanted to do and was not at all motivated as I hadn’t had much luck in the past with jobs but TCB kept going through my mind and so I pushed myself and got the application away. I was successful thanks to TCB. I feel God helped me through Elvis and I don’t feel lonely anymore.

I am a huge fan now and always will be. We are planning a trip to Graceland in January 2007.

Am so pleased for you that The Elvis Effect has helped and inspired you in your life especially through his gospel songs. What a beautiful story of inspiration, Tilly. Thank you for sharing it with us! did you ever hear Larry Geller's story about the young woman who was saved from commitiing suicide when she heard How Great Thou Art by Elvis on the radio, just as she was getting ready to take the pills? He tells this story in his book on Elvis' spiritual life and also on the "He Touched Me" DVDs. He also tells how Elvis prepared spiritually for recording this song, going into deep meditation just before going to the studio to record it.

In her post of the 20th of February Maia was talking about 'Elvis'capacity to love'.
Well, it is this love - the love he had and showed to everyone around him - that makes me love him.
Whenever I feel lonely or sad or think about his love, about how much he loved his fans. It always makes me feel better.


I don't know who the lady in his arms is, but there is so much tenderness.

I hope that this love still exists ...

Yes, I have this photo in my old scrapbooks and have always thought the same thing about it. Incidently, I Wanda told me years ago that the shirt he is wearing there (the TTWII flowered shirt) was made for him by Wanda's sister-in-law Jo. Am I right in that recollection, Wanda?
