Elvis' Original Wedding Album For Sale on Ebay

Postby Blue Moon » Fri Dec 21, 2007 4:36 am

WHAT A FIND ! Up for sale is the ORIGINAL wedding album of Elvis & Priscilla Presley-Beaulieu.
Elvis and Priscilla married on May 1st 1967 at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas.
Colonel Parker directed the marriage, and had a personal photographer at hand.

After the wedding, Parker presented the wedding album with over 20 exclusive pictures to Vernon,
Elvis’s father who, in turn, handed it to Elvis, who kept it for the rest of his life.
The personal wedding album remained in the Graceland Archives until American collector Jimmy Velvet purchased it,
and included it in the Butterfield & Butterfield Elvis auction.
The item is now the centrepiece of a private museum in Europe.

The album with a white leather look cover comes with a Certificate of Authenticity by Jimmy Velvet.

I don't understand how this album could have ever been parted from the Graceland archives.
Who was it that authorized its selling I wonder? Vernon or Priscilla? Maybe it was during tough financial times??
I don't know when Jimmy Velvet orginally purchased it. Anyone know?

Hi Laurie,

I once looked through the thick auction catalog of the things Graceland/EPE were selling back in 1998 (?) And none of the stuff impressed me as being likely to hold much sentimental value to the Presleys. So if this came from that same big auction, it would be a huge exception to that rule.

Also, if a love letter from Elvis to Anita Wood is so rare and valuable as to make it to Christie's Auction, what's something like this doing on EBAY?

It would be an insult to Elvis' memory and his family to have something so personal "up for grabs," but who knows, people are crazy and mistakes happen.

Vernon was so distrought after his son's unexpected death, and was in ill health himself those last few months with heart problems. I do not think he realized Elvis was in such bad shape-because Elvis wouldn't let him know; he was scared for his dad's health more than for his own most of the time. I don't think he would have "weathered well" losing his father at that time in his life but it was extremely hard on Vernon who didn't have any idea what to do about bringing in money. There were huge debts and no money as Elvis wasn't around to tour and the Col. had sold off the recording rights to so many songs that was no source of income either.
And records were selling like hot cakes at that time...people were "turning on" to Elvis suddenly more than ever-and still are. Vernon in his desperate situation sold a lot of things-things that were so personal and so sentimental to Elvis, I was shocked to hear some of some things being sold-the wedding album being one of them. Jimmie Velvet who was a big fan and also respected and cared about Elvis the man, bought a goodly number of items, thankfully because he tried to "take care of them". Some things went to "just fans" who had a bit of money-many things Vernon sold for a mere pittance of their value-he just didn't know any better. He sold The Lisa Marie airplane and the rest as well-it had some bad days because of it-and then with Pris' help and lawyers, things were bought back as they could buy them. I am surprised that she has not bought the wedding album back-she did buy his wedding ring a while back and it is returned to it's rightful "home" Graceland. Elvis loved looking at that wedding album, and had even after their divorce. he thought she was so beautiful in "that dress". I hope someday to hear that the EPE did buy it back. But one never knows-there probably is another album of pictures, probably many. wjh

Thanks Wanda for clarifying, and also to ReGina - it's good to know that Pris had her own separate wedding album.
So now I wonder if she would still be interested in purchasing Elvis'.

Good point Trish/Golden Sky. It is a wonder why the wedding book is on Ebay and not at a fancy aution house.
Don't know what the reason would be unless the seller was hoping to avoid agent costs.

Very interesting points made here and it's good to know Pris has her own wedding album and collection of personal pictures, hopefully Lisa has a selection of her favorite personal photos of her Dad too, guess she must have!

Pris said this on Larry King

KING: An e-mail from Michelle in Corona, California: "I attended the official Elvis auction at the MGM in Las Vegas in 1999. It was to benefit Presley Place in Memphis. Can we expect more auctions from the archives?"

P. PRESLEY: Oh, that's a difficult question. I, you know, the archives are very, very special. They're very unique to us. And, I mean, it's really our -- it's his legacy and things that are obviously his. And we don't have -- we have a lot of things, you know, in the archives. But it's a very specialized -- oh, my gosh. If it's an auction, it would have to be something very special to us. But we'd have to have a few of them and not give away what we do have. It's difficult.

Also on sale on Ebay now is the original 1965 Graceland nativity scene.
Please see below link for story and photos which show the scene as a backdrop for
Elvis & Priscilla's 1965 Christmas card picture, as well the replica which stands at Graceland today.

it seems to be Vernon's copy (the wedding album)
given to him by Parker.
