Your thoughts on/....

Postby Rainbow Light » Sun Mar 12, 2006 4:45 am

Hi there Wanda

Have just read in a magazine I get from England that Sonny West has apparently done another book and got the impression he was trying to balance out what he'd done in the first one with Red and Dave Hebler back in '77 - 'Elvis - What Happened' - surely isn't this rather a tall order?! and again I'm left feeling 'oh no, not again', that sinking heart feeling - you know?

Maybe I'm way off course and I've never met Sonny let alone talk to him but there's just something in particular about him, instinctively and maybe intuition that I've never liked or trusted over and above the book they wrote as that is so long ago now but anyway, anything you can share on this would be appreciated - your thoughts etc as and when you can.

Thanks - Sue

Never liked him. He is right up there with Red, though Red did have a few good traits-he kept his mouth shut when the rest of the "authors" were out blurting from the day Elvis died until --- And he thinks he's got more to say-? Could it be he finally "got religion" and wants to "come clean"? Who knows-it's easy to write a book now with all the online publishers. I went that route as it was pretty easy and I didn't need anyone to write it for me-just some editing assistance as I hardly know where to put commas, simicolons etc: and with the computer it's even easier as it can correct spelling, etc:. I tend to write backwards-must be my Dutch blood-or so a teacher once said. I am Dutch and Irish-what a combination! Anyway, Sonny West-lets hope your heart has changed and your memory truly did "wake up". I don't think trashy stuff will do well with today's people-at least most of them. There are those few who think it's cool to be gross and worse and that will be their "audience". Wait until you all see Stanley's "Elvis" in the movie made of his book-what a joke. There is something really sad about those pretenders-they just don't have the "glow" Elvis had inately. And he never had to "fake it" as they try so hard to do. It's like a cartoon-and a badly made one. Oh well, money is worth more than loyalty to some- Wjh

Yes, got the impression Sonny was trying to 'redress the balance' or some such words to that effect so maybe he's seen the light, hope so anyway and would be good to think so but guess we'll just have to wait and see with regards to this.

Do you know the name of the actor in the Stanley's movie? I know I shouldn't judge but where on earth do they find them?! My guess is as good as yours I'm sure but oh dear!!! Dale Midkiff in Priscilla's movie (on her book), not knocking his general acting skills and maybe he's fine with other parts but as 'Elvis'? - not in a million years! As for the Stanley book, hmm, no thanks!

Am going to have to wait I know just that bit more, but your book sounds so great and well, at least I'm looking forward to that one coming out!!! :)
