74 - (Called me at the office, very busy morning and he's "riled up" I can tell but I have to answer and take messges but he wants to say something right now.]

Elvis: You put me on hold- (curses)
W: I'm at work, clients come first.
Elvis: I'm a client...
W: This is a personal call...
Elvis: Maybe not, damn it.
W: Really...
Elvis: (Silence)
W: That's what I thought...so, what's up?
Elvis: (Silence)
W: Cat got your tongue...?
Elvis: [curses]
W: Hold on...a client is calling.
Elvis: Sh--- [more cursing]
W: (Talking with client...maybe 45 seconds)
W: Okay, Elvis? Still waiting...
Elvis: Made me forget what I wanted now...damn it.
W: You're spoiled...he's in court today-but you know that.
Elvis: Called to talk to you...excuse me, you're busy...
W: It's busy on Mondays but I have a minute or two...how are you?
Elvis: F.... up...what do you care?
W: Okay, get it off your chest...
Elvis: No-no...you're right, you're workin' an' I'm not...
W: Is that pouting I hear?
Elvis: [muttered curses]
W: I don't think he'll call in until lunch-then it's right back in court-do you want me to have him call you if he has a minute-I 'll tell him you called.
Elvis: You think I'm a spoiled...brat?
W: Yep, pretty spoiled.
Elvis: That hurts...um not that bad...
W: You can be very bad Elvis...it's not your fault though, everyone caters to you, you know that...it's just the way your life has been for so long you ...don't realize, I think.
Elvis: Gawd...um always thinkin' of others so ...so how's that being...spoiled? Jus' cause don't pick up after ma self or nothin'...that's their damn job...if I did it they wouldn't have a job 'n..'n no place to live...not like this!
W: Oh I get it, someone got their feathers ruffled and that's it-huh?
Elvis: Yeah...he let me have it good...un I didn't do nothin' but ask 'em why wasn't doin' his job...left stuff ever where 'n didn't take care of things like before...can't find nothin' ma stuff's screwed-musta left stuff someplace...it wasn't ....good. He quit...'n so had daddy fire him...jus so he can get a taste of-of not havin' Elvis in his life...be a big let down, let me tell you! Damn it...what's the matter with these x$%x xing guys? They want to be here but they don't want to earn the right...it's a job for gawd sake...I pay 'em 'n ever thing...no body gets a free ride in life-no body! I sure the hell don't! [ I censored his colorful comments down to the above. He was fit to be tied-it was one of his step-brothers This is a short "blurb" going into Face To Face. To be fair, his "faults" will be included here and there...he didn't want to be seen as being 'too nice' " 'cause, um not, ya know."]
end.

Wanda, you were so good for him. How many people would have been brave enough to tell him he was spoiled? Of course you really cared about him & he knew it, so I'm sure he appreciated your honesty even if he was in a pouty mood. You were so patient with him too. I think you must have had a calming affect on him, even if he lost patience at first.

can't find nothin' ma stuff's screwed-musta left stuff someplace
I wonder, was the stuff misplaced or could it have been stolen?

Mysteriously disappeared in route-I think his jewelry was taken and sold for etc; and he finally decided that also but it took awhile and I wouldn't "dare" imply that could be a possibility...not where they were concerned. He lost a necklace that he wore quite often...it had a cross on it but not the big diamond one he later gave away to a little girl... and his personal TCB went missing as well-when he died they had to borrow one from one of the guys so he could wear it at the service...one of them said he gave him his wedding ring...I don't think he did-as he wore that ring sometimes...then it kind of got lost too...he thought he just put it somewhere and couldn't find it...after he was gone, word came out he had given it away...so I don't know the story there. It wasn't a flashy ring, just white gold with a few diamonds. I never noticed him wear the white gold horseshoe ring after they split either-they had matching ones.
As far as daring to tell him he was spoiled, he was acting like a brat, I was trying to handle calls alone, he just wanted to vent his temper and also talk to his friend the lawyer about the guy as he knew about the dealing etc: and forgot what day it was (court day-Mondays usually) and then he was being obnoxious cursing because I had to put him on hold a couple of times-a bit longer than he wanted...once. He wasn't going to treat me that way-I was doing my job and he could wait his turn...waited on him plenty of times! Anyway, he "took it like a man" finally and calmed down. That wasn't recorded-when I was the only one there (Lunch time) then I sat in the other office and could control the phones. Otherwise everything would be on tape. I have to say that lawyer had the best set up and he was "damn good" and quite a showman himself! He was Jewish (practicing one) but he and Elvis studied religion together. He's gone now-up there jawing with his buddy no doubt...he was a member of Elvis' prayer group of guys...and he meditated and prayed every day-usually around 4:00 every afternoon because Elvis would be up at that time as well...if in LA and the other LA guys would do it also...one of them was Efram Zimblist Jr. I don't remember right now the other guys-but it was a surprising group! Jack Lord included. wjh

"Normal"

Postby Wanda June Hill » Thu Sep 21, 2006 11:35 am

Hey Zey! There were several other people he talked with who also treated him like one of the family and made him "behave" when they could...though he'd be moody and naughty like a spoiled brat on purpose I think just to get "something started" and then laugh about it.
Entertainment for him, I think. He was angry when he called, at himself because he "forgot it was Monday" and then because he was "betrayed" and it hurt since it was one of his "brothers" whom he was helping raise-and too, he was being put on "hold" of all things! HIM -having to wait like a regular person!!! Yeeks! But he got over it pretty quick, he just wanted to "tell someone" and hear himself say it I think...he was like that...he wanted to "hear" things and I think that's why he liked to read to people...he could hear the words out loud and get more from them than reading to himself. Or it was the sharing of it that helped him...whatever, I was not the only one doing these things with and for him-it was usually people who didn't have a working relationship with him that tended to "stand up" to him more than his everyday contacts...or so it seemed that way to me. I may be wrong, I know some of them tried to give him a "normal life" if that was possible. But he was spoiled to having his own way...very much so. He had been "trained" that way from birth and then through the huge wave of fame bestowed on him at so young an age. He really didn't know how much he was "spoiled" and it was a good thing actually. It made him Elvis. wjh

BOOKS!

Postby Wanda June Hill » Thu Sep 21, 2006 11:37 am

Zey, I just got an e-mail saying that the book is printing and they are sending me my "complimentary copy" which I should get in a few days...once I have it to check over, they can be ordered! I don't know whether to cry, throw up or go back to bed! I guess when I get it in my hand then I will realize it's finally finished? Then maybe I will just be excited like a "regular person" but then I've never been one of those-exactly-at least that's what my family thinks! I am ready to order them, ship them and then be a nervous wreck until somebody reads it! wjh

That's how I feel...my head is going up and down, round and round and I don't know what to do next! It's kind of weird-but I am also nervous now and that's rare for me! I have 5 interviews waiting to do-but they have to read the book first-that's my rule. I want some people to read it and give me their opinions - I wonder if I have "wondered back and forth" too much-as doing face to face I notice that I am doing that quite a bit-so I have put in "lead in lines" to bring the reader back. I don't want to alter what I've said by moving things around-that would confuse me! And it reads fast and not too jumpy I think, so going to leave well enough there... I am just putting in some letter excerpts, a few whole ones, transcripted conversations, mostly short ones that haven't been posted...and then some that are favorites or offer information that is interesting and important in one way or another and then the tributes from anyone who wishes to put one in. If anyone feels hesitant-that's okay, in fact I want to warn all of you that there are those who will be snippy and derogatory toward anyone who "joins up" with Wanda June Hill. Keep that in mind-sometimes it's not worth it, really. And as I've said before, put your selves first-don't put your neck out in my behalf-as like my dad told me, there will always be someone ready to take a whack at it. Keep in mind I am a tough old bird-I can wrangle a 1,200 lb horse and bring him back to earth pretty quick. "Manure" doesn't bother me either-can "kick it" with the best of them. wjh

Dear Wanda,

I just thought that you may take from the Foum those posts appraising your work clarifying who Elvis really was. You could choose the ones that resounded more in you. Some of us could even write some to post here, specially thinking in that purpose, if you feel the need for it. I don't mind at all to have my full name, profession and country signaled in it. It has been many, many years ago that I decided to be true to myself and in order to be ME, I have taken unussual steps, being expossed to others. It has never been hurtful to me. I always travelled through.

Thanks

Postby Wanda June Hill » Fri Sep 22, 2006 11:54 pm

Really, thanks everyone. I seem to be about to dive into that cave again or something-but that won't last! It is just my "shyness" The good news is:::: I HAVE A BOOK IN MY HANDS!!! It turned out nice, the cover is very striking and beautiful and the type is easy to read, clear and quick and even the Interview italics is easy to read so I'm happy :P  :D
and it's not really that heavy either! So great news there as far as shipping goes. I haven't a flat price yet-but will have on Monday and will be ordering my box of books!!! That's how my head feels.... The pictures look pretty good-but they aren't the quality of the ones in our first book-those cost a fortune and had layer after layer of coloring done to give them that perfect photo look-these are printed pictures and look like the ones I make on my printer-but still, he's smiling and the one I like best -he looks right at you, those eyes are saying just what he thinks of that photographer and his "just one mores". I love that picture- anyway, I am pleased with the book-mainly that it reads so easily and clearly and Maia's art work on the cover with that blue background is just perfect-it will get attention where ever it is. And I will drag out that old beat up sheild and clean it up and be ready to face the "vapid" mm's should they stick their heads up out of their holes... I don't know, kinda think they won't say much at all-too many things have come forth from other people that fall right into line with what I was saying 28 years ago. Besides that, I got lots of "angelic" help both here and there! wjh
