Elvis: I've been doin' this since I was nineteen, you know, 'n it's been something! I was eleven the first time...it was in church 'n I sang "The Old Rugged Cross" with Momma and Daddy. I had a solo part and then I sang at a fair... won third place or somethin', not first like what's been told... did "Old Shep" with my eyes shut the whole time 'cause it scared me so... And then I sang with some of the gospel groups 'round town 'n nearby once in a while, when they'd let me at rehearsals or somethin'. At revivial meetings through the early years... my teens. That's what I thought I'd be, you know, just a group member. One of the guys, you know, and when I was nineteen I did the record- little scratchy thing, for Momma. Don't know what happened to it-musta got lost or left somewhere, don't know. Maybe broken-they split real easy.
I was pretty excited when they called me in. Man, it was a dream comin' true! I didn't know what it meant, but it... there was a feelin'... in side me. Something was going to happen... I just knew it. Somethin' kept tellin' me, get ready... it's coming! I'd lie awake thinkin' of all---all sorts of things. Dreamin' you know, but nothin' in all them was ever...equal to what happened. To what keeps happenin' ! I just couldn't picture this-not in my wildest dreams and-and man, had some wild ones! (He laughs) Real wild! Kid dreams, fantasy and-and most of 'em have come true in many ways. Many ways. I wouldn't trade this life for anybody's existence. No one I know man, equals my life. I love it! Ups-downs-whatever, it's been great. Just great! I'd do it all again-there are a few little things I'd do differently, but mostly, I'd do it just the same. (Pause-takes a deep breath.) Damn, I'm a fool-huh? (Laughs, then becomes serious and softly says,) It was worth it all, every tear, every heartbreak, every fear... It was worth it all."

It is comforting to know that Elvis felt that way and in many ways one could say he certainly suffered some for his art, a true artist and performer does that! but I hope he knows now all his efforts and everything he ever had to go through are appreciated so much!!

Even with everything we now know Elvis went and had to go through, pleased he felt this way and chose to express it in words also. :)

YES EVEN THOUGH ELVIS HAD SOME VERY ROUGH ROADS TO TRAVEL ON, HE STILL SAID HE WOULD DO IT ALL AGAIN. SOMETIMES I WISH HE HAD STARTED HIS CAREER NOW. BECAUSE I THINK ALL OF THE LIES AND TRASH WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SPOKEN OR WRITTEN ABOUT, BECAUSE TODAY THERE ARE JUST TO MANY PEOPLE LIKE RIGHT HERE AT ELC. WOULD DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER, THAT KNOW HOW ELVIS REALLY WAS. TO NOT LET THE LIES EVEN START. WE WOULD STAND BESIDE HIM, TO WHEN HE WAS HERE. FOR THE LOVE OF ELVIS!! BARB!

I agree, Barb!

I feel that NOW he surely has the WHOLE perspective, so to say. He is "higher on the top of the mountain" and deeper into human hearts. And making sense of it all, more able to help.

Right Amanda, he has it down and cooking by now...and doing what he does best-touching the people in the heart and soul of things. You know, I was thinking last night, Elvis said he yearned, he longed, he had such a need to be with Jesus and wanted to sit at his feet and listen. I miss him but I can't be sad for him. I am sad for his little girl, and for some of the fans who really needed him to be here for them, and for poor Charlie and Vernon who suffered so after he left them. Otherwise, I have to keep falling back on what he said in several ways in those last days...He got his wish in every way .
But then, who could say no to Elvis? wjh

I miss him like everyone here but can't be sad for Elvis. Yes, for Lisa and others as you mentioned but I know beyond knowing a sense that he's ok and doin' alright not to mention still helping and touching hearts as much as he ever was while here!
