Lies Become Truth

Postby Wanda Mc on Thu Jul 12, 2007 2:35 am

It's sad that once something is thrown against the wall, some of it sticks whether it's true or not. And no matter how many times something is PROVEN wrong (or the people speading the lies are discredited), some people seem to still believe it. You know, where there's smoke, there's fire? I've enjoyed the few times I've seen celebrities sue tabloids for flat-out lies, and they always win.

Maybe if Elvis had sued a few of those movie magazines back in the '70s they would've had to recant, but I guess he figured paying them any attention gave them legitimacy, and probably assumed people were smart enough to know better. Well, some are, and some would rather believe the lies.

Hi, as for Darrin Lee and his book, from what I have heard about it, he is doing his best to debunk the stories and outright immagination tales that have come forth over the years-then and since his death. It would be a tremendous chore to go through all the material and hearsay, lies and distortions that have abounded during the past 30 years and then try to go back and sort through how it started in the last years of Elvis' life-begining with the fact he was hooked on sleeping pills which he had taken since he was in his early 20's because he could not sleep, he was a sleep walker and had nightmares since childhood. He was under alot of pressure, tales and distortions abounded even then in those first years and later just kept growing until they became like some kind of wild vine growing in Mississippi-so thickly entangled one could hardly find a path to get through it all. And Darrin is taking a big sword in hand to try and whack a path to the truth-if he can, more power to him! We just need to whack the rumors and what ifs aside and wait for the book to come out-then we can really say what's up and what's not. It's hard to wait-so many good books coming and hopefully some well researched and thoroughly sorted "historical" ones as well! Darrin Lee has always appeared to be upright and just, I don't think he's changed his mind about Elvis. wjh

AMEN, Wanda! It's great to have as many on Elvis' side as we can get for sure and be able to help others understand more about this precious man who, though by his own admission was no saint, most certainly was not the 'monster' some have made him out to be!

I'm having trouble with the Internet line often these last days and I missed this thread (and many others too  ). Yet, while reading it tonight, I can't help it but to smile in wonder and contentment when Wanda tells:

Elvis said the human heart is like a radio, but very few people tune it in...and they let other stuff interfeer so they "lose track of their heart frequency an' can't hear it so good". That's why he liked to meditate-he listened to his heart instead of so much of what was told into his brain by so many. He liked to be alone, to think and listen to his heart he said, " It knows what you need...and the heart doesn't lie."

It's my sincere belief that this only portion of Elvis thinking is quite a treasure by itself. It may take a whole life to get to this conclusion and Elvis was young -but already wise!

Everybody should have these sentences written in big letters, always at sight, not to forget it. The one who can feel and think like this, can't be someone burnt on drugs. He could not be attuned to his heart, the way he certainly was! :P

There's so much to look at in Elvis as a clair reference for us, a model of what a human being may accomplish and express spiritually in this reality, in spite of faults inherent to all of us. No matter what is said about him, nobody can stop us from viewing in wonder the most meaningful part of him, the one that transcends time and space, related to a great soul.

Why am I not surprised to share points of view with you, Sarena? :P

Most probably there's a kindred, a sisterhood from old between us, that is expressing itself very easily here at the ELC Forum. From what I observe, we are not the only ones to live that experience. There are other cases of great affinity and concordance. Love is the "mortar" to make all the pieces fit together. Elvis triggered the whole situation, channelled later by Maia. Is it not just a wonder?

It's funny, but people who were not lucky enough to spend time with Elvis, who only got to meet him in public settings, where he would be trying to live up to the expectations of whomever and being Elvis, though what you saw was him, he didn't put on an act so to speak for anyone really, he was just careful not to come off dumb or silly or whatever and wanted the person to have the best possible memory etc:. Elvis was a human being, he got tired, worn out even and sometimes bored with the whole thing-but he still did what was needed at the time and no one knew how he felt except those few who did know him out of that atmosphere. Elvis was very happy go lucky most of the time, he also was a stickler for detail and he wanted what he wanted when he wanted it at times, but then he was used to having things his way so why not get a little anxious if he had to wait or it went worng? He was patient with people usually too much so at times and he'd lost his cool at home since he couldn't out in public-reasonable I think.
He blew off steam, then it was over and he'd expect people to realize it was just that "steam" and he had to do it or blow up for real. Most of the people around him were used to this "venting" which wasn't all the time...
and usually he had a good reason to be angry. So if Elvis turned to being just himself on stage, where he felt he was among friends and talked about what he loved, Karate and other such things and he demonstrated it some, wanting to show people it's beauty etc: and he might have talked longer than some "attention defficiets" could handle it-he was sharing his life, a little piece of what was important to him, something personal and with friends. The same thing he might do in his living room at home. And he got in trouble for it. He even said so-but he didnt' blame his audience-he blamed his employers and some of his employees...who were the guillty parties as they "fed" the stories after the show with their girlfriends, etc: and it got embellished as it went along. Sometimes I think those people were so looped themselves they coluldn't have drawn a straight line with a laser light! Much less get the facts of any conversation straight. That's how the tales got going and eleborated on and those journalists who pretty much didn't bother to show up at shows themselves relied on their "ears" and "mouthpieces" for details. That was obvious to anyone who was persent at the shows that were written about later on. It seemed the writers were in fantasy mode and just looking for "shock" factors and that's what they got and what the built on.
That made Elvis furious...it was affecting his life, his career and his family-and it wasn't being told correctly.
He had had enough-he was getting it from all sides-the press, his managment, his employer, his guys, his exwife, his lawyers and his father wasn't doing well health wise. Neither was Elvis-it was too much and he just had to explain and he couldn't keep his temper out of it. Still, he didn't say anything that anyone there had not heard hundreds of times in public and movies for years. Big deal.

Thank you, Wanda, for always giving us the best, balanced and loving perspective of Elvis as a human being, for enabling us to see so many aspects of his personality as above!

Am bringing this back around as there has been much said about Elvis' 'ranting speech' different places and I believe the best place to get the replies and a balanced perspective view on the situation as was comes from both Maia and Wanda! They were at the concerts when many weren't and yet out in the Elvis world, I believe there have been many ever-distorting "Chinese whispers" echoed round the block from people who were not EVEN there!!

True, I wasn't at the shows either but I ain't the one trying to drag Elvis' name in the mud!!

Why is it so very Hard for people to not what Elvis to speak want was on his Mind and Heart he was a HUMAN BEING!, he really didn't have anyone at home to Listen when he needed to Rant A Little. I don't Blame Elvis for Blowing up at Home either, because it was his Home he Paid for it. So if I thought he Loved me enough to share what was bothering him and if he had to Rant, then LET HIM BE!
