Sri Daya Mata was and is still the head of Yogananada's Self-Realization Fellowship. Elvis belong to the SRF and was a close friend of Sri Daya Mata.

In 1975, I got a letter from Sri Daya Mata saying she needed to get in touch with Elvis because she was feeling his distress. When I spoke to her, she said she had sent him many letters, all unanswered. From what I understood, Vernon tore them up. He was afraid of Elvis getting re-entangled with a spiritual search that might take him away from touring. I called Elvis and told him that Daya Mata was concerned and wanted to speak with him. He was moved. I know that he still regarded her highly, but he never called her.

Well, it seems life never was easy for Elvis, especially the spiritual path he had to follow.

I applaud here Priscilla, for letting him know about the fact Daya Mata was wishing to get in touch with him. I wonder if this was the same period of time when Elvis was in contact with the Order that gave him the ancient ring he was to give to Wanda to keep it safe. That could be the explanation why Elvis never answered back to Daya Mata's interest for him.

Maybe Wanda could help to have the times clear...

Poor Ol' Vernon..he knew so little of this world of fame fortune and the fast lane and what it does to people and how important it is to stay connected to the pure spirit..he might have had good intentions i feel so sorry for him...he was very lost after Elvis left us!!

I'm so glad that your heart chose Compassion and Understanding for Vernon instead of being irritated with him for making things more difficult for Elvis. I believe it says a lot about the Love's quality of your soul. Thank you for your positive comment.

I called Elvis and told him that Daya Mata was concerned and wanted to speak with him. He was moved. I know that he still regarded her highly, but he never called her.

As far as I remember Daya Mata had told Elvis in person after his marriage break-up that he should take good care of his body. Obviously she saw Elvis' health declining. Elvis promised to be careful, but as we know he couldn't live according to special diets or the good advices he got. Larry Geller wrote that Elvis felt he couldn't face Daya Ma again, because of this.

But some time before his passing he had a dream about Daya Ma where she appeared and told him that all would be well (spiritually speaking).
