Hi, Starla met James Burton at a club where she was working with her band; he came up and talked with her and noticed she was wearing a TCB when she commented on him wearing his after all this time. He picked hers up and looked it over, turned it over and then looked her in the eyes and said, "Yes, you got one, don't you?" She didn't tell him how or anything, but he was nice to her and the other band guys, saying she did a good show and he told her where he was working and he had to leave as they were going out on the road. He was friendly, warm and spoke well of Elvis then saying he missed him very much also, and that she was a very lucky young lady to have grown up with him giving her advice etc:.... She told him she met him at age 3 and he had been like a father figure giving her things, teaching her things he thought she should know etc: about life.
Anyway, she liked him and said "he's lost even more hair"-thats one thing she always notices, the guys hair changes that happened so much over these past years, how it's so hard to recognize some of them. She was never impressed with James' guitar riffs for Elvis-she said he kept playing the same things over and over-but that was what Elvis wanted...and he got what he wanted from James and the guys-or kept at them until he did.
James was a good guitarist and I remember him from Rick Nelson's tv show appearances etc:...so did Elvis. wjh

That's great to know, Wanda! I got the impression that James is very warm and soft and doesn't talk too much, just what is necessary and that's fine (I'm not talking so much also and like it when people understand that! )

Starla is a truelly very self-confident lady, wow!

Yes, she really was! 8) :P

Wanda,

Is there a possibility for Starla to feel drawn to write an adult commentary about Elvis' influence in her live or something of her personal experience with him, for your book "Face to Face"? I'm sure it would be very much welcomed, now that so many years passed by and she has the maturity to better understand his presence in your lives.

She is thinking about it, but I cannot speak for her nor would I want to in case she changes her mind. She is very private about her feelings for him and about him and how he has influenced her direction in life. So we shall see. I'm sure it will be very well thought out and precisely to the point. In few words compared to how many it takes me to tell something! wjh

Maybe she is a bit aware that part of the "KEY" is in her hands, too. Image

I do understand and respect Starla's decision; stand by whatever she may feel she wishes to do in either way, it's up to her alone whether she chooses to speak/write or not and believe that's the way it should be! :)

We have Wanda J who has kindly shared so much of her memories of Elvis with us and, despite her characteristic and endearing modesty, she's a lady who has a great way of speaking and writing about him too! We love and so very much appreciate your way of bringing the real Elvis to us, Wanda J!! :D
Seeks to encourage and inspire!
