It is immensely frustrating to have the world's press continually try to bring Elvis down with the latest 'story'/scandal or whatever, specially as he is not here to even be able to defend himself though has got more than enough of us to be able to do that for him in OUR own way! Or at least try to stand up to those who would attack his name and memory.

Here's hoping that Wanda's book will go some way in being able to change the usual perception of Elvis as viewed by the press/world, at least we know she is doing her very best to try and get a positive view of him out and that's what counts!!!

word out

Postby Wanda June Hill » Tue Apr 11, 2006 11:25 am

Thank you very much Sue for the encouragement and hope that we can all help counter the durge that seems to just keep on keeping on. It is better-it's amazing that so many younger people, mere children some of them-are getting "hooked" on Elvis' music and his films! There is a small theatre in a little town in Oklahoma that runs 24 hours of Elvis movies and concert footage on special days relating to him-including Christmas and New Years.
My half brother told me this-he went once this year and said the place was packed with all ages and they cheered when Elvis came on screen in the movies and they clapped and carried on (his words) at the concert films as well. And they ran Pris' movie once but not any more because the audience boo-d and hissed her image! And the actor playing Elvis they really boo -d him. So they never ran any other made for tv movies. Good for the man who runs it-he is 32 years old and his parents had met Elvis in 1956 at a show - they never got over it,
my brother said. He still talks about meeting Elvis and how nice he was, polite and spent hours signing things and posing for pictures-until his manager came and got him out of the crowd to leave. Then Elvis gave away his pen to a youngster who didn't get an autograph-the pen had Elvis' picture on it. People like that couple are going out on a limb so to speak, running his shows as often as they do- but they own the theatre- and can do what they want. My brother said, "People from 40 miles away show up to see those films-the whole town benefits from them that way because they buy food, gas and etc:" wjh

Book

Postby Wanda June Hill » Tue Apr 11, 2006 3:52 pm

Okay, gosh you got one of those! Rare indeed...I signed quite a few but considering all that were sold, not many.
Glad it's in good shape-most all the books that went to libraries had the pictures cut out of them! Even some that were in book stores. They were as you know all in the middle and easy to cut out. This time there are just 6 but I think they show him well-especially the cover photo-one from San Diego and from Long Beach-just his face and that smile. And then one from back stage in Vegas that is my favorite one of those years-it's so Elvis in that he is getting a tad ticked off because the photographer keeps saying, Just one more Elvis" and he had already been posing for several. The guy must of had his entire family and all his cousins there! Anyway that photo is priceless-Elvis looks great and thats the man coming out of those eyes and that face-and he is losing patience! Then one from 1956 is my other choice because I didn't know him then, and I liked that photo.
It was so weird that he chose it to put my name on-he didn't know I liked that one best either-signed 3 photos from 1956, and then chose to add my name to that one. I always wondered about that-but never did ask him if he read my mind???? Sometimes it seemed that he could...and did. I miss him so much sometimes... when things come up that I know he'd laugh about or be interested in- it dawned on me the other day it will be 30 years since he's left - so hard to believe. I'm old! Oh well, so what-just means I'll be seeing him again soon-and all my other friends, relatives and pets gone on before! Thanks again. wjh

You're very welcome for the encouragement and yes, it's so great that younger people are getting into Elvis, that so many are getting 'tuned' into him. Think there was always a younger audience but perhaps some of the little ones, in the majority, were children of older fans - at least that's the experience I have had from going to conventions, Elvis holidays and the like, y' know?

Well, folks, can tell you that I'm due to hit the big 4-0, tomorrow in fact and 25 years out of the 40 I've been a fan of our very special man, Elvis. And they have been some of the best years of my life, wouldn't change for the world and love him as much, if not MORE than I ever did, ain't no-one to compare with Elvis!!!

Best wishes, Sue

ELVIS TALKED ABOUT THIS VERY THING IN WANDAS BOOK, AND HE SAID WHEN EVER HE WOULD READ SOMETHING IN MAGAZINES THAT WEREN'T TRUE OR SCANDLELESS HE WOULD JUST LAUGH IT OFF, AND SAY WELL I GUESS THAT HAVE TO MAKE A LIVING TO. I KNOW I WOULD HAVE A VERY HARD TIME BEING THAT WAY, IF I WERE IN ELVIS'S LIFE. FAIRYTALE!!
WITHOUT A SONG THE DAY WOULD NEVER END, WITHOUT A SONG A MAN AIN'T GOT A FREIND, WITHOUT A SONG. SO I KEEP ON SINGING A SONG.

Most of the world still thinks Elvis was a continuous prescription drug abuser & that he died of a drug overdose. Maybe your book can help dispel that myth & many of the other misconceptions & lies.

We can only hope and dream that this will be so! :)
