Though many homes were lost, people were not and most all animals were rescued or removed by owners. Wild life in the areas that burned are "used to" such things as these areas burn every so often-it is like Elvis says, necessary purge. It's awful to witness, we had fire very close to us a few years ago-a fire set by a young person that destroyed many homes just East of us in the Junipter Flats area. The huge monster appearing cloud appeared over us, rearing it's head like a giant great worm complete with ugly evil eyes and mouth! I was scared-I don't scare easily. The wind changed and saved us-I don't know if it was praying, but I remember saying, "Oh God! Not our horses!" and the wind just switched suddenly and sucked the cloud in the other direction- two horses were lost about a mile from us just before that cloud reared it's head over us. I swear it was grinning like some evil thing and swirling, bobbing and weaving extremely high as it came over the top of our mountain. I never felt quite that helpless before as I stood there with a garden hose to try to spray down the tall pine tree behind the house. I was home alone as Jimmie and Starla were at work. Our horses have sprinklers, we have a plan to keep them wet down in case of fire-and if water fails, we can put them in the field where there is nothing to burn and try to save them if we can't get them away from here. Our houses will go fast, but the animals will be saved. Thank you all for prayers and light for California's fire areas. San Diego got it the worst-but they should not build in those areas! wjh
