I agree that Elvis is to be applauded for deciding not to take a role where nudity would be involved specially as there was a real chance his daughter would get to see the film concerned. I think this was more than likely Ms Streisands' own fantasy!

I do agree that Elvis had a strong potentially good to great acting ability and have "Flaming Star" on the video machine as I'm 'writing', case in point, I believe; an excellent movie with a great acting script and other well known actors and actresses in supporting roles.

Thank you so much dear Sue for bringing this back around again. I feel so badly that Elvis wasn't given the chance to really show what a tremendous actor he could have been thanks to the conniving and unscrupulous ways of one Mr. T. Parker!! The part where he said ........"they jus' wouldn't give me a chance...gawd...nobody..." really broke my heart because he WOULD HAVE AND COULD HAVE had that chance if Parker hadn't pretty much controlled his life!! However, it was very cute to read about your dear Grandmother's rather inauspicious 1st time meeting Elvis sweet Wanda. So funny to read how he got her to come around and change her way of thinking about him so quickly!! That man just exuded Southern charm"Lawd, Lawd!" It was also very touching to read about the reassurance you got about Elvis coming to get your Grandmother when she passed away through the dream you had of watching them walk arm in arm up that stairwell and then turning around and waving to you. Wanda my dear friend thank you so much for sharing all of this with us and helping us all to get to know the wonderful HUMAN BEING and LOVING SOUL that you were so blessed to know!!!

He sure had an effect on people, did our Elvis and could bring people round just like that!

Such a great story Wanda about Elvis and your grandmother! In all the years I've known you you can always come up with something I have not heard before! SUCH GREAT MEMORIES YOU HAVE.

Your Grandma was Spunky like mine was Wanda, that was a real Hoot when she Gave Elvis A Wack up side his Head! did she ever say who she thought that was that grabbed her around the Waist? FairyTale!

She claimed she didn't know it was him- she had not taken a good look and so he "shocked her doing that". It's possible she didn't recognize him then, she didn't go to his movies or anything like that and didn't ever see one until she got a television that would bring them in-in the Ozarks back then, tv reception was very poor...and she lived in the mountain area.
We got her a better one with a nice tall antena that was attached to the tallest tree near her cabin home and she could get a few channels that were local to Springfield MO. And got to see Elvis then. Later when her tv died due to lightening striking the tree/antenna. Elvis had it fixed for her the same day- I don't know now if it was repaired or replaced but he did it...when my dad was gong to wait until the next month when he was planning to drive to see her. He went up every 3 months or so and then it was a long time he quit due to farming etc:...and she began to be ill and had to have surgery )stomach cancer) and then to a nursing home. Elvis then sent her flowers, called a couple times, driving the nurses nuts, sent her records so they could play them in the rec./lunch room for as he said, the "inmates" he was kidding, but he knew it was sort of like that for some of them. And he had my mother going by to visit her-he didn't do that, he just told her she was at that home and so having a close relationship with her former mother in law, she started visiting her weekly when she went to see her sister a few miles further than the home. So it all worked out, as Elvis would say, part of the plan...wjh
