Elvis - A Lighted Candle

In days of thinking and wishing I could have done something to ease my brother's pain, I have also been sorting through things that might go in a summer auction we will have and in one of the older books Emerson wrote
two thoughts that refresh and reinforce my belief that there really are so many hearts here on ELC who have friendship at the core of their spirits: "A friend Is a person before whom I may be sincere. Before him I may think aloud." and "The only way to have a friend is to be one."
I have found so much friendship here and I hope that something I have said or written on has brought comfort to anyone in our ELC family because my heartfelt love is bedded in friendship for all of you.
I know Elvis was a man who believed in the beauty and security of having having friends who he could confide in like Wanda or Larry Geller, who accepted him and his needs and his love just because Elvis was a friend to them and they for Elvis.
I find comfort in reading the beautiful words on ELC that always know when to be there for me and I hope that I have 'just been there for another' in something I have written and then read by another.
Elvis continues to inspire millions to come closer to searching for the spiritual path that will lead to the One above. I never met Elvis but I just know he is happy, really happy now and at peace and it is his glorious voice leading those in singing. He had the gift of making a song feel like it was his and he was singing because of his love of song while he was in his earthly body; and I am certain he is doing the same now. I will always believe that Elvis was sent by the One above for a reason and at a time when people on earth needed to draw closer to the spiritual walk; but not to feel alone. We know that there were obstacles for Elvis and there were stumbles but yet he kept going as do all of us here.
My spirit feels happier when I think of all of you in our ELC family. Elvis' has to be smiling with happiness when he reads what we write and what we affirm for one another.

Marjorie, you've got me all choked up. Thank you for this beautiful, sincere letter. I agree with you entirely about how we are true friends to each other here at ELC, and I believe Elvis is smiling about it, too. Your friendship does mean a great deal to me!

And I love Emerson very much. He is the philosopher I am best acquainted with, and his words are dear to my heart. So I take it as a "sign" that you quoted him, it's almost like a little stardust shimmering in your message.

Thank you. Even while enduring the losses I have had of late I will never lose my faith that the One above does hear us and does care. I miss so very much the smile that Elvis had while here on earth but I know that now he can smile without pain.
Anyone who was blessed to know Elvis and to know him well enough to count him as a friend, and for him to feel secure that the friendship was real and not contrived to 'just get as close as possible' to the very generous and sharing spirit that Elvis was and still is.
I hope that I will be able to be a that kind of a friend for anyone who needs me and it does not matter where you are or where I am.
