How"I Believe"was introduced to millions this week

Postby Blue Moon » Thu Mar 27, 2008 8:19 pm

A few days ago on Tuesday I was listening to Coast to Coast AM radio. At the beginning & ending of each 20-25 interview segment is a lead-in/lead-out snippet of a song. One of the songs was "I Believe" by the Bachelors. George Noory (the host) encouraged the audience to pay attention to the words of the song, even though only approx. 20-30 seconds of the song was played.

I was thinking it sounded fine but that Elvis' version was much better. He puts his whole heart and soul into it and his voice is abolutely stirring, giving one chills. So I thought well I'm going to email George a Youtube link to Elvis' rendition, which I did.

However, I'm also thinking this is going to be a drop in a bucket. Coast is the number # 1 overnight radio station across the U.S. & Canada, with an average of 10 million listeners a night. George gets hundreds, probably a couple thousand emails a day. I did not feel led to pray for him to "notice" it. I thought I'll just send it and leave it in God's hands, but I did pray that if it ever got played on Coast, that I would be listening to it when it did.

OK, so the next night, Wednesday (into the wee hours of Thursday morning), I listened to the program which was about the Bermuda Triangle & Coral Castle. Toward the end of the show, George ends the interview several minutes early, saying that he feels led to play this. He then proceeds to play Elvis' version of "I Believe" in its entirety!!!! He seldom plays songs in their entirety, except the theme song by UFO Phil (about aliens, ghosts, Bigfoot etc.) which gets played at the end of every Friday night.

I was really so surprised it got played; almost surreal like. Due to his email volume, I was just was stunned that George would even take the time to listen to the link I sent him and then play the whole song over the air to boot! I knew he'd like the song if he heard it.

The only Elvis songs which get any play on Coast are a couple of the super-hits (and even then only in part); never any of his gosepl. So here for the first time one of his gospel songs gets played to millions of people on a secular radio station.

I hadn't heard "I Believe" in awhile. And somehow when I heard it last night, it sounded extra fresh & alive to me -- probably because I paid more attention to the words. The song was a reminder to me that there is a loving Creator who carefully crafted & cares about his creation. So no matter how bleak my circumstances appear, I know there is spritual help. The song and its words have been strumming through my mind all day today, giving me encouragement.

So this has been a blessing in particular to me, and it also exposes a large audience to the gospel side of Elvis; many of whom have probably never heard of Elvis' gospel music or even knew he had a spiritual side.

Thank you George Noory for following your heart and playing the song when you did.

Thanks Mary for your kind & caring words. You are one of God's shining children and I'm so glad to have gotten to know you through this forum. :D

Here are the lyrics to "I Believe":

I believe for every drop of rain that falls
A flower grows
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night
A candle glows
I believe for everyone who goes astray, someone will come
To show the way
I believe, I believe

I believe above a storm the smallest prayer
Can still be heard
I believe that someone in the great somewhere
Hears every word

Everytime I hear a new born baby cry,
Or touch a leaf or see the sky
Then I know why, I believe

Everytime I hear a new born baby cry,
Or touch a leaf or see the sky
Then I know why, I believe

(Drake/Graham/Shirl/Stillman)

:D What a Wonderful Blessing Laurie, and how the Lord heard and the way he Answered your Prayer. It would be so Special if this Radio Station does more of Elvis' Gospel, to Open Peoples Ears to this Great Side of Our Elvis. Thanks For Sharing this! FairyTale!

I had a dream, it was short and there was no voice sound only like a little movie. Elvis and JD were together, JD was holding Elvis' arm as if restraining him slightly- Elvis wanted to turn away and walk back down a path of sparkling rocks. JD would not let him go that way so they took another path through trees-music was coming from somewhere-it was gospel type music, very sweet and comfroting. J D was still so much taller than Elvis who looked like a young kid next to him. JD was wearing a long coat, Elvis was in shirt sleeves and when they walked I saw them from the back. Elvis had his arm around JD's back and they appeared to be laughing over something he was saying. That was it. it ended. and I woke up to the cd player beside our bed playing "Why Me, Lord" with JD singing lead... it was from a concert. The next one up (it's set to play random) was "You'll Never Walk Alone". wjh

have you thought?

Postby 73smile » Mon Jun 09, 2008 6:28 pm

When I think of the "things" that have happened to me and to people I know and then I read what others here in my ELC experience I wonder if we are all not being 'extra' blessed by the One above; because we know that the creation of Elvis was deliberate as was his time to return to his first father.
We also know that the One above knows all and he 'sends' Elvis to us in dreams or in other ways that get our attention. Once we are 'listening' we think of Elvis but also the One above and think, too, about the plan for each of us. Too many things have happened to us and I believe that more 'things' have happened that have not been yet shared here.
I know I listen and when I listen my heart feels closer to the One above and I am fully aware that he made me, too, and for his own reasons and when he wants me back home that it will be the time to leave to be reunited with loved ones who have gone on ahead of me.
Thank you all for making ELC a place to come to for love, for sharing and for reinforcement that being on this spiritual quest is the right place for me to be. I feel his hand in mine and it fits perfectly!
always with love,

I Truly do Believe that each and everyone one of us was Lead here by the Lord, and that They knew in their Hearts How Special Elvis was Inside and Out. Like Wanda said in a email she sent me earlier, its like when we can get into ELC it seems like we are Lost Away from Home. I know thats how it is for me, I know I was Lead here by the Lord and that Elvis Helped me find ELC because I was Longing for a Place that Cherished Elvis' Spirituallity and that I Wanted to know The Man!
