I have been wondering about this word today and turning it this way and that way and thinking about its meaning in different ways and in diverse circumstances.
A famous person said once, something like this....'family/home are both where one can go back to and also can turn to in good times and in bad times.'
I think that the definition of the word is one easy to look up in a dictionary. But to me, in both happy and in sad times, when the sun shines or the clouds move in or when there is no silver lining to be found, that family is easy to define because for me this place is family.
All of us at our ELC family try to help each other, we work to boost each other up when one is down, we are joyful when happy news is shared, we try to lift the spirits when someone needs a 'hand to be held' or a shoulder to cry on, and it is at ELC that the essential elements to want to continue to move forward on our spiritual paths is to be found.
Family members are nurturing, they teach lessons, they suffer together, they celebrate when good things happen, they encourage, they protect and always they love. Family then is a really simple word to define. I have not ever read a posting here that has not had meaning for me and there have been many days when your hands and your shoulders have been there and the hearts within you all are filled with generous love for me.
That is the same element that drew so many to Elvis. He was filled with a joy and a loving spirit for all he met and he gave all he could for as long as he could. Elvis is family and family meant everything for Elvis.
I wish ELC had been around in the day because this is the kind of place that would make Elvis feel at peace, made to feel more secure and very, very happy. Family.
We can take humble pride in knowing we work diligently to be there as often and as much as we can be and I believe Elvis is proud that we work as a family that respects and loves and trusts each other.
Love to all,
Marjorie
