for Elvis and friends
As I sat one day in summer
Here alone upon my bed
I gave thought to my situation
And to where my soul was lead
The man above, so filled with love
Who sent me souls to know
I thought of those still around
And the one’s who had to go
When a stranger becomes a friend
We are truly blessed
Friendship with its ups and downs
Can put you to the test
Its now or never, a wise man said
Take heed of what you do
Be careful my friend of what you say
Its possible to mend a thoughtless deed
But words cant be taken away
I sat and pondered long and hard
Of all the mistakes id made
Bad friends taught me so much more
Than the good ones id have to say
The good taught me love
And all its pure affection
The bad taught me defence
I can use in my protection
So to the bad, these words I say
What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger
You may not have known me very long
But you must live with yourself a lot longer
So to the good, I humbly do state
To be considered your friend
is a wonderful fate
Thanks for the faith you bestow on me
I hope I don’t let you down
But If I do, I pray you’ll forgive
Id cry if I made you frown
I am only human, and to faults
I am rather prone
But with the whole human race
In that I’m not alone
So if I make an error of fact
Or wrong judgement on word or action
Oh give me the chance to redeem myself
To your complete satisfaction
I would try my best to comfort you
And erase my wrong from your mind
Oh give me the chance to make amends
Our friendship to be redefined
thank you for loving me
And showing that you care
And for all you say and do
I will try to all ways be there
And remember I love you too
