Elvis: ...Momma made my decisions and I was just willing for her to do it, too. She'd tell me what to wear, wake me up, put me to sleep, fix everything for me...We were real close-real close. I guess she understood me, the inside me, better than anyone ever will. I miss that-I-I-sometimes it hurts real bad, you know. Not to be able to say how I feel really-and know there will be someone to understand me and know why I feel that way. She did-day or night, she understood and we'd talk it out if-if something troubled me.

Wanda: I can see that you would miss her.

Elvis: Yeah-I do. Time hasn't healed it-only eased it a little bit. It's not true about time healing hurts like that, you know. It's not ture-they never heal-they just kind of get dusted a little and open up and bleed freely at the slightest thought. It just makes us tougher I guess, time does. We hide it better, that's all. Death is-is-sharp, brutal and leaves quite a scar sometimes-and yet it is such peace for the one who dies.

It's obvious from this topic of conversation that Elvis missed his Mom just so very much and totally understandable in the circumstances. Anyone who lost a dearly loved member of the family will relate to the pain and sense of loss Elvis felt for sure.

Is so sad that Elvis lost his Mom not so long after his career had gone into full on mode, he'd just started to have been able to provide everything he had ever wanted to for Gladys and make her life that bit easier and did his best to be able to contact her often even when he was on the road. But, she was a sweet, Southern lady and would have preferred to know her son was safe and happy, also ultra protective with having had Elvis' brother still-born.

He must have been absolutely heartbroken and cut up when she did not long after he'd gone into the Army, she understood him - as he said - better than anyone else did and must have missed her so terribly, poor love. At least it is comforting and reassuring to know they are reunited now, once more.

yes, it is very reasuring to know that he believed and said so, that his mom would be coming for him when it was time. He truly believed and his heart was pure. It kind of angered me when one of the guys said not long ago that Elvis would have known he was dying and asked the Lord to be merciful in his last breath. Elvis wouldn't have had to do that- but the guy who said it must have some doubts that he'll get there! And hopes that in his last breath he has time to ask! Oh well, that could be he doesn't know any better... I know Elvis made it and not because he waited until his last breath.
His heart was pure, his intentions were good and he strived to live by his beliefs-far more than some of the other could say! Or do...even today.
My horoscope told me to be careful of my thoughts and spoken words... wonder if that includes written ones????
Whatever I am "apt to be cynical and spiteful" to day.

Bringing round this topic for anyone who missed the thread earlier when it was originally started!

Wanda, you could never be "cynical or spiteful" ever! Sometimes, much of what the mm guys said/wrote about our dearest Elvis would drive any of us to want to respond in his favour and do our best to stick up for and defend Elvis' name and memory against them and their "memories"!

In fact, in light of what much of the mm guys have said/written over the years and how much they were, apparently, with Elvis "24/7": even if they had been (unlikely story!), it doesn't mean they ever bothered to even try and understand him as the man behind that image, who Elvis truly was behind the legend and at least you did that and were able to help him, dear friend!

Losing my own dear mother at such a young age I can certainly understand how Elvis felt. He was right--death is brutal and sharp yet ironically enough so very peaceful for the one who dies. I know the loss of my mother has left quite a scar on me. Thankfully Elvis is at peace now and with his momma once more.

Thanks for the kind remarks, however I have to be honest here-my family might beg to differ with that "never be etc:" because they know I can have a sharp tongue and be the "type A personality" I recently discovered I was! Never knew that-explains alot of my "drive" to "do things right now and don't quit until it's done" thing. That does drive my hubby and daughter nuts at times-they don't want to get in my way, said Starla, at those times or I would "run them down like an out of control lawn mower"! I had to laugh over that-she has a good sense of humor and uses it all the time to put across a point. I kind of think she might have learned that from Elvis who was really good at that too. I am trying my best to "slow down" and even "let things go" that used to drive me nuts until I got them taken care of. At least I don't have to line things up in a row and close all the closet doors before I got to bed-whew! At least that one isn't mine! Elvis used to be that way, I wonder if he slowed it up some. He was talking to me one of the early days of getting to know him and he kept moving around, and the phone was noisy and he'd "fade" out and I said what are you doing anyway? He said he was fixing things and of course I said, what kind of things? And he told me he was putting things away, straighting his dresser and the bathroom drawer where he had "things" and then was fixing his shirts in order because somebody put them in "wrong" and arranging his shoes so "can go to bed and get some sleep." I asked him if things like that bothered him and he said, "Yeah, like things in order." Yet he'd leave his clothes and things all over the place I've heard for someone to gather up. When I saw his room in the house he lived in Bel Air, it was very neat, like a hotel sort of-clean and "unlived in" looking in many ways. And that closet was in order...arranged by color combinations as far as I could tell. wjh

Some people are naturally neat and organized, but others get to an obsessive neatness when they feel a certain other part of their life is out of their control. And so, with their own sense of powerlessness, they compensate by having "extra" control over smaller more manageable ares of their lives.

What do you think Wanda? Was Elvis naturally neat or do you think it was to the level of compulsion, or pehaps a bit of both?

Hi, thanks for asking BlueMoon...I think it was both...at that time in his life he had no control over the movie scripts etc: and was bored with them but had to do them regardless. He did have some say over co-stars, could suggest them etc: and a few other things that were more technical and I think that was "given" him so he would feel some what more a part of things. He was less so if someone was with him too, so it could be he was "fixated" on things to compensate being alone? He was neat, didn't like clutter though he had unique tastes in how his house was furnished etc: and what he liked-mostly it went back to what his mother had liked in the house-as for drapery etc: and then Elvis liked comfortable furniture with clean lines and also wanted plenty of room for "guests" to sit down etc:. Priscilla had good taste in furniture-she wanted elegance but not ornate and he was kind of more for comfort and just what he liked but he went along with her choices as she was the "mistress" of his home after they married. She hated the red and white and gold ornate things that were in Graceland when she became in charge after he died-mainly because she thought it way too gaudy and as was said by some, it looked like a "bawdy house" or something. He didn't like it either-not as much as he liked the other furniture which is out now-I think he went along with Linda and chose totally different to get rid of "memories" because he said everywhere he looked he couldn't help remembering "what I don't have anymore" and he was referring to her and the baby, his family. So that red look was totally different "fer sure". I've read where people who got to see in his house, upstairs and hotel rooms etc: say he was very neat and lined things up in the drawers, toothbrushes etc: and was never messy nor did he as one woman told, "leave hair on the soap or in the sink". She said who ever "trained him did a good job". I laughed over that one! Here he thought he did the "training" and it was him who was!!

Just had to smile and have a little giggle at Starla's words and the way she puts things as above! Well, ok - I concede to her point as they know you lots better than we do here.

However, to as much as I and we know you, Wanda, you've so much special within your heart and soul - Elvis saw that too - OBVIOUSLY! - and that's why he knew he could trust and be himself with you - totally!! That much - at least, we can be sure of!
