Jaycees Speech

Postby Blue Moon » Sat Apr 14, 2007 2:55 pm

"When I was a child, ladies and gentleman, I was a dreamer.
I read comic books, and I was the hero of the comic books.
I saw movies and I was the hero of the movies.
So every dream that I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times.
And these gentlemen over here -- most of these type people who care, are dedicated.
Do you realize it is not impossible that they might be building the kingdom of heaven?
It is not too far fetched from reality.
I'd like to say that...I learned very early in life that without a song, the day would never end;
without a song, a man ain't got a friend;
without a song, the road would never bend; without a song.
So I keep singing a song. Goodnight, Thank You".

It behooves one to sense God as dwelling within each of us, rather than as some distant entity, far above and seemingly beyond our reach.

It surely was a beautiful speech, and he deserved this award very much so.
Seeing this clip, it warms my heart. He was so nervous! Also you can hear him laugh when talking about it afterwards. :D
He proudly wore the medalion, and it suited him well.

Thank you for posting it here Blue Moon!

Love, Raina

Thank you very much for the link, Laurie-Elisia! This one is going to my "Favorite" list, to be able to review it often.

It's moving to witness his deep emotion while saying his speech, the intention within it and the fact of being recognized farther than as an entertainer. Dear, dear Elvis!

Thank you for sharing this with us here. The award meant a great deal to Elvis. Always. Unlike his high school diploma which he proudly hung on the wall, he carried the award with him.
When I think back, in a historical sense, of a couple of other honored men there, it seems ironic that while Elvis was helping to make people here and abroad happy, that some other honorees were helping a president in one great covering of misdeeds that brought the first resignation of an American president.
Life is filled with twists and turns and that is a fact for sure.

Thanks so much for the link to that wonderful video Laurie! :D I LOVE watching it because it did indeed mean so VERY much Elvis as it was an award celebrating him as a man, a human being and not just as an entertainer. :D Like you said Sue, it was DEFINITELY very well deserved!!!!! :D
