New Elvis Harley Portrait From David Uhl

News from aritst David Uhl. Entering his tenth year as a licensed Harley-Davidson artist, David Uhl's body of work continues to capture the imagination of art lovers around the globe. His artwork is displayed throughout the world in museums and galleries and has also been sought by serious art collectors and celebrities alike. He has been featured on several television programs and has been referred to as "The Norman Rockwell of Harley-Davidson artists".

David Uhl's latest work "In Tune" represents Elvis Presley kicked back, enjoying a glorious Memphis spring morning. This piece of work captures Elvis outside his new home Graceland, tuning his original Gibson J200,(before it's re-configuration). Behind him stands another embodied passion, the legendary 1957 Harley-Davidson® Panhead. Without a doubt he is experiencing first hand all the the early fruits of his impending mega success.

This is the first depiction combining two of America's most important icons in one painting. Endorsed by both Harley-Davidson, Inc. and Elvis Presley Enterprises, the historical magnitude of this project suggests that a series of limited edition reproductions be created. In order to accommodate the immense potential interest generated by this image, the following edition specifications will be offered.

** Large edition: (24"x30") will number 350 with 50 artist proofs. $1850 framed.

** An exclusive oversized edition numbering 50 will be added, which duplicate the actual size of original (36"x46") along with 25 artist proofs. $4500 framed.

All print editions will be reproduced in the finest quality giclee on canvas and arrive beautifully framed with seamless miter joints. The oversized edition will be outfitted with a special custom hand-gilded frame.

All prints will also be hand signed and numbered and accompanied with a certificate of authenticity. A decorative brass plaque displayed on the front center of the piece will be inscribed with the name of the painting and release date.

All prints will be sold through Graceland Harley-Davidson and be official licensed products of The Harley-Davidson Motor Company.

The original is 36"x46", oil on linen and framed with a 2 piece composite hand-gilded moulding.

Great picture/painting! I'll have to be content with just a copy of the picture-!!! I like it better than the one the other guy did recently-with the green caddy etc:. I like the way Graceland is depicted in this one and the only thing I can say about Elvis in it is I wish he had not done his hair so black as it wasn't at that time in his life. wjh

Wanda, I have to agree with you. I like this one better than the Kinkade one also. But whew! It's too pricey on my budget to get a large size print.
I didn't notice the hair color as you did. Didn't Elvis start coloring his hair black beginning with Love Me Tender (or was it Jailhouse Rock)? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, as Love Me Tender is one of the 5 remaining Elvis movies I have still yet to see.
Graceland was bought in March 1957. Wasn't Elvis dying his hair black by then?

I did find a larger sized image for posting though (see below). Wish it were a bit bigger for wallpaper.

He dyed it for Loving You-which came out in 57 I think and was filmed partly in that year too but it wasn't such a pompador style then...he had that with the natural hair coloring I think. But what the heck, close enough-and I like the picture alot...dark hair and all. So would he I think...his favorite things, his home, his motorcycle and his guitar-as he said jestingly a time or two, "Who needs more than that?" Like to heck with women-huh?

Great picture-tuning his guitar-but you don't see any strings on it? And penny loafers also! he wore them!
Not too many would notice that fact-I saw a couple photos of him wearing them-usually though he went for the kind with the ties and little silver tips on them. Or the ones he could "dance" in on stage and wouldn't lose off his feet. Then he started having boots made that didn't hurt his toes-that came later on in life...He said his feet killed him in army boots-he had to wrap his toes in cotton etc: and even had his toenail removed totally in the hope of curing it but it didn't help as it grew back funny he said. Probably he didn't cut them off straight across again and they grew inward as before. Who knows now...I just remember him saying how mad he was that he could pour blood out of his new white boot after Dr. Nick cut the sides of his toe to ease the pain so he could go on stage and not limp. Even Lisa mentions him limping in one of her songs...Yet one could barely tell as he just didn't let it show unless it was really bad...then he would turn the pain into a joke on stage and make people laugh.

I too really like this painting better than the Kinkade one. :D It just seems more real to me somehow and has more life in it or some kind of energy about it. :D Kind of like if I really look at it for a minute or two I'm no longer seeing a painting but actually seeing him sitting there relaxing and enjoying a beautiful day with 3 of his "loves"--his guitar with which he made his beautiful music, his bike with which he explored such a sense of freedom and not the least of which---his beautiful(and at that time brand new) HOME-- with which he found a sense of PEACE AND FAMILY. :D Absolutely beautiful painting and I so wish I could buy one. Wanda, what you said in your post here really resonated within me--

" .....he would turn the pain into a joke on stage and make people laugh"

As soon as I read that my first thought was "didn't he always??" What I mean by that is that no matter how much pain he was ever in(physically, emotionally, etc......) he NEVER failed to make sure that all that came through for his audiences/fans was PURE LAUGHTER, FUN AND JOY even at his own expense God bless his precious soul. :D

Do you REALLY Mari?? HA! Couldn't resist.  (For those not in on the joke, go to the Humorous topic and read the thread entitled, "Palm Springs humor-really...65 or 66").

Seriously, though, I agree with with your analysis. It seems like I can almost hear Elvis humming while he's tuning his guitar.

http://www.elvisnews.com/ is now making this painting available for wallpaper but one has to have a "zip" program to do it.

I've never downloaded a zip for unlocking wallpaper. Does anyone know what program is needed & from what site I could get it?
