Thanks Sue, it was interesting to see this- been a long time since I even looked at a Numerolgy book. Sure did fit Elvis huh- he was pretty much doing the things or trying to do them as per the charted course for his age at the times- right up to the end. And he sure did try to do it "his way" when he could... and when he couldn't during the movie years he was chaffing at the bit all of the time, emotionally and mentally... so much so he was having anxiety attacks and having to go outside to be able to breathe sometimes in the middle of trying to sleep. He said it felt like he couldn't get air into his lungs or out of them and getting up and outside cleared his mind and then he could calm down. So he went to the doctor and he gave him "tranqualizers" sure, of course, what else. And then he gave him "sleeping pills" of course, sure thing, here ya go. Sleep like a baby... Just a real helpful doctor or two or three- He was also told to see someone he could talk to and he did- privately and quietly- she helped him somewhat, but then for some reason he quit going- he met her in "the mountains" north of LA he said-at a cabin a friend owned and she was a highly rated professional who had been on radio and tv but I didn't ever see her that I recalled. He liked her and said it helped, then he quit going- I think because his dad, Priscilla and others of his "family" told him he didn't need to do that-he could talk to them- whatever, he stopped... His dad thought it was crazy as coon to be spending that kind of money just talking! I guess she wasn't cheap- I mean she flew in from N.Y. just for the meetings... He probably paid for that too. Who knows.
He was desperate and it helped-so it was worth it, he thought and yet he quit going. Instead he went to the Self Realization place in "the mountains" north of LA and he really liked doing that- but again, family stepped in and guess what... he quit. Of course Col. T. got into that scene about then and put his 50% into it and so that burned some books also. But Elvis hid some of them and continued to sneak around and read them... he was tickled when he said that... like a naughty boy. And I broke one of my rules (and his implied rules) of not "telling him what to do etc:) and got on my soap box.
I told him I was glad to know that he had some back bone left and that he wouldn't stop reading just to please them- he had a right to read and think what he wanted to and after all, didn't he pay the bills? Feed them all? and wasn't he the breadwinner? Why shouldn't he be allowed and I stressed that word... to read what ever he wanted? He listened and then changed the subject. But I know it made a point and he thought about it- The silence made me sure he heard and stored it! No arguement... just wanted to "ponder it over" first. Typical Elvis.

I had heard that it was Priscilla who wanted Elvis to burn his spiritual & metaphysical books. Then too have also heard it was the Colonel. Maybe it was the both of them??

It's obvious that Elvis loved Priscilla, but it does seem like they were not a good spiritual match. Have read that Priscilla had little or no interest in spiritual matters. Had to have been frustrating for the both of them, as they were on different tracks. It's ashame that so few around Elvis understood him & that he had to hide some of his books. Wanda, glad you spoke up & gave him something to ponder. He had a right to be himself.

Hi, it was several people-who just didn't understand and got worried that he was "going to quit everything and become a monk" or something. He threw himself into whatever he was interested in-and he wanted to practice what he learned but that incroached on her time, his attitude about things, his approach to living in general and his guys (most of them) didn't want him into religion and wanting to live a "pure life" and be into all that religious stuff-it spoiled their fun though he didn't stop them-but they felt "guility" I guess heck I don't know. I just know they all kind of ganged up on him in some ways about it. And Elvis didn't like discord and strife at home so he complied with their wishes. But he didn't quit-he just chose the time and the place and he kept quieter about it. But after she left him-he was into it again and seriously. He back off his plans though-and I'm not sure why. He just said he wasn't "good enough" that to do what he wanted to do, be what he wanted, he would have to "pure of heart, mind, spirit and body" and he wasn't good enough to take on that responsiblity and be able to of benefit to other people. He would not talk about it-but it had something to with becoming a "spiritual leader" and help other people become "closer to God" He changed his plans after he was home for awhile. I don't know what or who he talked with but it was someone-who made him feel he was foolish to think that he, being who he was, could ever measure up to the requirements. Remember when he was wearing the colored full scaves over his shoulders? That was a part of whatever he was working toward-each color was a step forward-that's all I know. He would never talk about it. He said he didn't want to discuss it, it was too important and personal to him, to "my heart" he said. Then he just gave it up-boom- almost over night! I have always wondered what it was-what kind of "order' it was- it was spiritual and he was studying with someone else-another man-not anyone close to him but I know nothing else. One of the guys who was doing it also can now be seen on tv reading aloud the Bible-he's an actor and good looking, an older one. I don't know if he is still living. But Elvis said he would like to do that-and the other guy went on and did it...after Elvis died. The guy's last name begins with a Z. zimberlist? maybe? wjh

Hi, that's the guy-used to listen to him reading the Bible-he'd do it for an hour at a time, just sit there and read and I guess read the entire thing on tv over time. It hasn't been on for quite a while now-or changed the time of day. Elvis talked about someone doing that-for all those who couldn't see well and for those who just wanted to hear someone read it. There was no discussion or anything-just him reading aloud. Behind him was a stained glass window like a church might have.
Elvis would have done a heck of a job-he could read things very well, when he wanted to make a point especially. And with that voice- then too, he might have been the only attraction and that would have bothered him thinking about that. There were 5 other men besides Elvis studying whatever it was-but I only recall that one name right now-I used to know a couple others-so it may come back or I'll find something with it written on. I have so many boxes of stuff-paper mostly, letters, transcripted stuff and am digging things up for Elvis-Face to Face that will be early next year. It details more personal things concerning the few times I was in his presence-and more interview that isn't in WR,E. Face to Face is going to have more variety of things related to and about Elvis and it will be less pages
also. Maybe a few more pictures, we shall see. Anyway,
I wish I knew what happened to make him think he was
not fit for the "job" whatever it was. He said something about not being able to keep his own life straight-how could he help anyone when he couldn't help himself... So maybe it was a bunch of things all combined-not just one person. But he did have a couple of days with Pris at the house with Lisa-visiting because Lisa wanted her mom and dad together as her "birthday present" and/or Christmas present.... He would do anything to please his little girl... anything he could do-and most of the time he did whatever it was. She was his light, his joy he said several times. wjh. He was her's also, at that time and after as well.

Always so great to have so much discussion and thoughts/views aired on this Forum.

Know Elvis did have such a spiritual nature and in one sense he may have needed to have a source of spirituality in his lifetime to help him amidst the pressures in his career - maybe almost at times to help him combat the frustration he surely must have felt in not being able to do what he wanted/needed, better quality films, more challenges for him to achieve and triumph over etc?

But he had a sweet and compassionate, not to mention loyal nature, sometimes to many who did NOT deserve it! Too right he was the breadwinner and had the right to think and read as he wanted. I appreciate his family commitments of course and that's understandable in the scheme of things. However, all the same it was like the people he was helping to have a taste of the 'high life' seemed to think they had some kind of 'divine right' to complete ownership of him and what he could/could not think, read, do and believe.

Pleased to read you were able to give Elvis something to 'ponder on', Wanda, what I've heard many of the guys got up to 'behind closed doors' I should think they would feel 'guilty' but then, maybe not, considering all the mean and vindictive trash they've come forward with over the years?
I mean, where did they get off on, telling Elvis who was giving them far more than they frankly ever deserved, what/what not to do?

Numerology

Me too and understand completely what you mean by above and how you feel, Mari. Maybe it's more hard to take in a way, in light of so much what has since been said about Elvis by many around him in books, interviews etc? to Elvis' detriment? Thanks to Elvis they had a home at Graceland, were encouraged to treat it as such and still he never felt at ease or free enough to do what he wanted IN HIS OWN HOME!
