The Brightest Star in The Sky

Postby Rainbow Light » Sun Jan 29, 2006 4:45 am

Born on a cold January mornin', poverty of the South cut deep
In the heart of the Mississippi, apple of your Momma's eye
Poor boy from Tupelo, sweet thoughts of you we keep
Your memory, preserved by worldwide love, no word of a Lie!

Young man heads downtown, dreams of fame and fortune that day
Did your best to help your parents, knew they suffered hardship and strife
Cut a disc with Scotty, Bill and Sam, just tryin' to earn some pay
Started singin' with your childhood church, gospel music formed your life.

Branded the devil incarnate in the Fifties, so very unfair did this seem
Carried out your army duty, just as every soldier boy should
As time passed, you became our 'idol' on the Silver Screen
'68 Comeback, proved yourself once more, we never doubted you could!

Stunning in that white suit: awesome; amazing; great!
Master Showman, held us spellbound, each and every fan
Superstar image became too big for you, seemed like Fate?
Too late we understood: No King, No God but so special a man!

Your mansion on a hill-top, visited by thousands each year
A faithful following - 'Steadfast, loyal and true'
You left us a musical legacy, but we still shed a tear
Yes, Baby, we still have the blues over you!

A Light shining in our hearts, generous in Spirit to the end
You brought joy to so many, witnessed happiness in their eyes
Humble and caring, showed yourself a great friend
Fulfilled your purpose in life and still the Bright Star in our skies!

Don't know if this is any good!

Sue, I think it's very good. You put so much of his life into that tribute poem, and so well. It should be out where more could read it, I think. And so true are your words, insight and so simple and elegantly put too.
Very good! Thank you for sharing it, Sue. Wanda

Hi Wanda

Thank you for your words today on the tribute, it meant a lot and much appreciated too!

I would love to be able to get it published in a book or within the main Elvis website but not sure of how I would go about this. Not that I'd want anything for publishing it, just the knowledge that I could share it with others who love Elvis as well as all on the ELC Forum.

Kind regards

Sue

Hi Sue, I'm glad someone posted so your poem could be up for Easter- It's a great tribute to Elvis and he liked holidays but he didn't do much "egg hunting" he went to the fridge and "got a plastic bag of raw eggs"- someone there took his picture holding them up. He did put out a few for Lisa when she was real little he said, but that wasn't really his "thing" he liked Christmas better... thanks again and welcome Julie Presley-great name there kid! wjh

Thanks, Julie, for bringing my poem back into the 'loop'! And thanks for the words, Wanda, much appreciated!

Also for letting us know about Easter etc. Had heard/read about Elvis' love of Christmas for sure and have seen the decorations up at Graceland. That must have been so special with him there at home!

Thank you A beautiful poem

Postby 73smile » Tue Jul 25, 2006 8:28 pm

Thank you so much for the words that are so beautiful they brought tears to my eyes. Keep writing. You have a gift and I thank you so much for sharing it with us here. I could feel the words as I was reading the poem. Brilliant. He would have understood it and he would have kissed the top of your heard and whispered "thank you for writing such words about someone like me."
I look forward to your next one. Just beautiful and peaceful and loving.

Thank you so very much for your sweet and kind words! I am hoping to get something inspirational written if I can which ties in with the nature and spirit that now prevails in ELC and the spiritual effect and touch he had, that's if inspiration strikes, that is! you never know but so happy that you liked it, Cooper 51/MSue! :D

Thank you Sue for sharing. The poem is a marvelous work! I can tell you put your whole heart into it.

It behooves one to sense God as dwelling within each of us, rather than as some distant entity, far above and seemingly beyond our reach.
