In 1952 my maternal grandmother died. I did not know her as I was born in July of 1951. This is the poem used at her service and it reminds so much of the absolute faith that Elvis carried with him each day:
The Promises by George H. Tallbert
My savior's grace is promised me, His tender love and care, His deep concerns in every grief; Each burden He will share. My father's care is promised me, His faithful, guiding hand, To lead me on and bear me up, To heaven's golden strand, My father's wealth is promised me, Supplying all my need, He is a King, and I his own, Am rich, yes rich indeed. The Holy Ghost is promised me, To in my heart abide, To hold me steady, pray for me, And keep me sanctified.
These words would comfort Elvis when he lost his sweet mama. They would guide him for the remainder of his too short life. In true faith, Elvis believed and that is all the One above asks of us. Like the ship in a storm at sea true faith will hold us steady keep us rich in faith. 73smile

As many of you know my wonderful and eldest brother, Robert, died in October of 2005 with pancreatic cancer. Even to the very last kiss he gave to me the day before his spirit was no longer earth bound, I knew I would be with him again someday and he is in my thoughts always. His widow, who was/is not a kind person and who made Robert's last ten years on earth a horrifically sad, sad place for him, is herself dying within a few hours. I went to see her at the hospice unit and she is non-responsive and all I could feel in the room was the loss she experienced when Robert's spirit left. I know Robert would have appreciated my going and so I did go and read to her for about 30 minutes. It was very difficult for me to do this because of the severe emotional pain she inflicted on a daily basis to our Robert but I did go because I did know the One above would be with me holding my hand. 73smile

Absolutely Marjorie! It is one of the hardest things we have to do sometimes, but also a blessing I think. She will know all that she has done and perhaps the why she was that way too one day. And so will all of your family, as Robert knows now. I'm sure he was there with you, knowing the kindness of your heart and the emotions being there brought to you. You are a very wonderful sister, full of God's love and goodness and a truly great example for all. your grand kids are sooo lucky! May I say blessed... wjh

Thank you all and I agree that without the One above being there with me I would not have been able to remain in the room long at all. You are right, Wanda. Now Robert knows and she now knows the whys of what she did to dear Robert and to Colleen, the last child born to them. Colleen is 42 now and mentally challenged. She is in an amazing group home with 5 other women like her. Robert wanted so much for Colleen to be able to be settled into a group home long ago and he worked long and hard to build a large enough trust to take care of his special girl for all the days she physically is on earth. Robert would be happy and feel at peace to know Colleen is happy where she is and that is what he wanted for her but his "wife" would not allow it. There are horrible things she did to Colleen that even Robert did not know about but now he knows she is safe and loved and I know that gentle Robert smiles down on her each day now.
always with love, 73smile
