I believe Jerry Schilling wrote in his book about Elvis saying the same thing to him, about there not being any such thing as coincidence. That he felt that everyone you meet is for a reason, something like that. Its funny also, it seems to me that several people that were close to Elvis had meet him earlier. Jerry, Larry Geller and John Wilkinson(band member) and there may be more, those are just a few I remember off hand. But it seems in reading I had run across others.

I don't doubt that he'd met a lot of them, he liked to have people he knew and who were talented around and he wanted the best so he went to those he had some personal knowledge and contact, or recommendations from those who did
know them. He liked being able to say he had the "best" working for him...and
he always gave them credit for helping him do his best on stage. He said that he "made mistakes, and they have to cover for me" and he wasn't kidding about it- he really did mess up now and then, and he'd pull changes in the schedule of songs, and they had to be at the ready for whatever when it was him on stage.
They loved it, I think they would to a man (or woman) jump at a chance to work
with him again...if it were possible.
