Hi, I think he got the idea from someone, and too, he had seen the film that
had used it or had it written for about space traveling etc...can't think of the
name of the film...maybe that was the name of it? I didn't see that film when it came out nor have I ever viewed much of it except a few scenes previewed. But
that music was changed / fit to use for him...it was not the music he came on with when we saw him at his first Vegas shows... the band just played some
fast rocking kind of music and he came walking out, head down and kind of shyly
as if he had to see where he stepped or he might not make it across... he was
not the flamboyant confident guy he became after a few weeks- boy he looked
young! That was the most shocking thing at first glance I THINK, after one got
past the awe of actually seeing him in person etc... He looked like he did when
he returned from the army only he had black hair! And he was very, very hand
some of course and I agree that most photo's do not capture the beauty of that
guy's face...he shone, he glowed, he gleamed...those words don't tell the story
actually, it was just that he was unique and one of a kind. PERIOD. There is
nothing to compare him with actually, and that is something hard to say or
admit - it's like saying "I am too awestruck to explain" but it was really a bit like that way and I knew what he looked like, had seen his face in person a few times but believe me, nothing prepared me for seeing him walk out on stage! I could
not get my head around the idea that that guy up there was the same one I
talked with on the phone... it had been a long while since I had seen him in
person when we finally did get to see him on stage... years in fact. I had stopped going up there, for anything and had not seen him except on film...
Then got to see him again briefly and among other people so mainly it was
just watching him, listening and trying to make sure I had everything in memory or in notes of those times... I was afraid I would forget exactly what he said,
did and I watched... as if that would be possible.... but it is a darn good thing i took those notes...because I had forgotten a lot and having them helped me
to bring it back "live" in my memory. And if I think about it, he is clear and living in my mind...memories are wonderful, retaining them as one gets older
is not an easy thing to do. Thank heaven they are now all in printed form...
forever hopefully. Even if the download disappears some people will have a
copy all around the world. Great thing, the internet...in many ways.

:hello: Wanda Thank You for Answering this Question, I think it might have been the Movie Close Encounters of The Third Kind that 2001 Space Odyssey was First Played as that Movies Theme Song. But I'm not that Sure either Maybe some one else will know the Correct Movie, I had only seen parts of that Movie to. But I have always thought that Theme Song Fit Elvis, when he Started using it. It was a Big Powerful Tune, that made the Power of Elvis' Stage Performance Sound even More Bigger and Powerful!

The song title is: Also spracht Zarathustra from the film 2001 - A Space Odyssey.
Elvis' conductor Joe Guercio thought it would be a good idea to start the show with a disco version of this theme song and his female singers should go into a repeated vamp of "the king iof Rock and Roll" but Elvis disliked the words a lot. He hated to be called the king. So they just started only with the music of the song.

Sorry, I'm not often online at moment, because I'm too busy or out of town. But whenever I'm back I will alway have a look into the board here. :hello:

Interesting mathematical computation relating to various dates in Elvis lives, all which have the sum of 2001.

Day of Elvis died********* 16
Year Elvis died*********1977

I've never heard Joe Guercio say that he wanted 2001: A Space Odyssey to be "disco-like".....sorry. The simple fact is that Joe saw the mow and heard the music (or his wife did) and either Joe or his wife (Joe's wife) thought that it would be great music to use to introduce Elvis to the audience. It was first used during the February, 1971 engagement in Las Vegas, NV.
