Now, we already know how much Elvis loooved to talk by phone! Wanda knows for sure.

James Burton indicates a valous quality Elvis had: his disponibility for everyone that could need him. Such a loving soul!

JB All I'll say is that, until you walk up to him on the street and look him right in the eye, it ain't Elvis! I had a dream one night, and it was very clear. The phone rang. I picked it up, and this voice said, "James, I’m sorry I left like I did. I just felt like I needed a rest. And I needed to get away from it all. I feel great, and I'm ready to go back to work. So would you call the guys and set up a rehearsal?" It was like you could feel him on the phone, hearing his voice like that. It was pretty touching.

Yes, it should have been pretty touching...! I wonder if Elvis was kind of communicating directly with James Burton...

I'm very appreciative of the efforts JB is doing to help children to have a guitar and learn music. I think MUSIC is the most universal language, one that can promote peace between humans.

SJ What did you think of Colonel Parker?

JB Great guy. Good businessman. He knew what he was doing.

SJ And the Memphis Mafia. You guys got along?

JB Yeah, I knew all those guys for years. They were fine.

I can't help but feeling that James didn't want to go into the details.....
But I appreciate him being respectful, and of course they all were "fine" to some degree....

Those comments shocked me too, Sarena. But I guess James Burton was playing with other stars intensely at the same time,, thus he was very busy running from one place to the other -as he explains often- and maybe it impeded him to get more personally involved with Elvis' world as some of his other musicians were. Maybe he kept a "coolness" or distance about it all, in order to be able to change from one place to the other. I have noticed in the interviews made to him that he never gets "too warm" about Elvis, yet he talks about him very positively, but in a professional way more than anything and less about the effect Elvis caused on him...

You must be right in your appreciation on James Burton, Sue Lenora. Thank you for making him justice where probably I didn't.

Hi, Starla met James Burton at a club where she was working with her band; he came up and talked with her and noticed she was wearing a TCB when she commented on him wearing his after all this time. He picked hers up and looked it over, turned it over and then looked her in the eyes and said, "Yes, you got one, don't you?" She didn't tell him how or anything, but he was nice to her and the other band guys, saying she did a good show and he told her where he was working and he had to leave as they were going out on the road. He was friendly, warm and spoke well of Elvis then saying he missed him very much also, and that she was a very lucky young lady to have grown up with him giving her advice etc:.... She told him she met him at age 3 and he had been like a father figure giving her things, teaching her things he thought she should know etc: about life.
Anyway, she liked him and said "he's lost even more hair"-thats one thing she always notices, the guys hair changes that happened so much over these past years, how it's so hard to recognize some of them. She was never impressed with James' guitar riffs for Elvis-she said he kept playing the same things over and over-but that was what Elvis wanted...and he got what he wanted from James and the guys-or kept at them until he did.
James was a good guitarist and I remember him from Rick Nelson's tv show appearances etc:...so did Elvis. wjh

That's great to know, Wanda! I got the impression that James is very warm and soft and doesn't talk too much, just what is necessary and that's fine (I'm not talking so much also and like it when people understand that! )

Starla is a truelly very self-confident lady, wow!
