I'm just reading the book "Elvis & Gladys" that so kindly Christine sent to me. There is said that Elvis' sense of rithm came from his mother, as Gladys discovered herself as an espectacular charlestone's dancer in her teens, for which she was very much valuated ever since!

Yes, Elaine Dundy's book ELVIS & GLADYS is really quite good! Elaine has some very revealing things to say about Col. Parker....but that's another story! :?

I have not reached that part yet. What I have read to this moment is very good, indeed. It's a detailed portrait of Elvis' origins that brings much light to his upraising.

I enjoyed Elaine Dundy's book as well. It has a focus on his earlier life, including some ancestral information.
She seems like a very insightful woman and offers her opinion in many places as to why Elvis was or behaved a certain way.

I do recall, however, that what she had to say re Elvis' experience in making the Jailhouse Rock movie differed from what Wanda said in another forum post here. I recall Ms. Dundy basing her opinion, at least in part, on an interview with Shelly Winters who said she overheard Elvis complaining to his mother about the movie.
Wanda mentioned that Elvis would probably have said that on purpose to make his mother feel better -- so that she would believe that he missed being at home.
