SPEAK UP FOR ELVIS! GO TO WWW.PARADE.COM AND VOTE FOR WHO INFLUENCED THE MUSIC INDUSTRY THE MOST? ELVIS PRESLEY OR JAMES BROWN?

Without Elvis "kicking the door down" between white music and black music of the 50's James Brown nor others who came along then wouldn't have had the open door to go through! Yes James was one of the biggest soul singers, who used the same kinds of music as Elvis but it took Elvis to put it together AND present it to the American youth who then made that sound the big attraction it became. Without Elvis, James Brown wouldn't have reached most of the white youth of those times. None of those early black artists would have-it was Elvis who made it possible by daring to be white and different doing the "black" sounding music that was forbidden on radios across America. It might have one day been heard by many, but not as fast as it happened had Elvis not been pounding away at those barred airwaves. So VOTE FOR ELVIS! The Parade writer said it was James Brown who had the most impact!
Parade is a little entertainment magazine that comes in Sunday papers and reaches coast to coast via newspapers. wjh

I voted too. The Parade writer says that James Brown's combining of gospel and rythym and blues as the reason for him being the most influential. Well Elvis did that as well, and combined other types of music too. And as you say Wanda, Elvis opened the door to the white community accpeting and listening to black music.

It was James Brown who was quoted in saying "Elvis taught White America to 'GET DOWN'!"

For those in other countries who may not "dig" the slang, "get down" in this sense means to get with it , get into the music!
