Okay...Today 4 years ago..Johnny Cash (The Man In Black) passed away...as you guys know I have been a Cash fan ever since I was a child because my grandfather was a fan...he had many Cash 45s and I used to play them all the time..Once I remember I scratched his copy of "Hey Porter" and he screamed at me for the first and last time..I was 3 years old. I remember that black day in September I was 12 and when I heard the news on CNN I ran out to my grandpa's grave shaking and crying and told him that Johnny will be soon joining him in heaven...

Anyway I just wanted us to remember this great man..who loved Elvis so much.. infact I want to share this with you something Johnny said in an interview after Elvis passed...

Quote:
SCOTT (700 Club reporter): You started out about the same time as Elvis with Sun Records. Elvis didn't make it. Would you account this experience with the Lord as the reason you made it and he didn't?

JOHNNY CASH: No. Elvis may have had a stronger relationship with God than I did. God gives us life and takes us away as He sees fit. I don't say Elvis died because of drugs. I say God decided it was time for him to die. I don't believe any of the trash I've read about him. God's the final judge for Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash too. That's solely in the hands of God.

So let us remember this man...the original Man In Black...remember him as he like to be remembered and grief over what he wanted this world to be which is still sadly undone the things he wore Black in grief over...
Quote:
Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen' that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black

"Man In Black" by JR Cash

Lets remember his for his strength and struggle for survival which he won and that was written about in this song written by Kris Kristofferson and sany by Waylon Jennings (two of Johnny's greatest friends and fans):

Thanks for posting about Johnny Cash-he was always one of my favorites- even before I found out Elvis wasn't "the devil's child" I liked Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings too. Johnny Cash was always a "rounder" as my dad would say, but he liked him also. I was glad that he rose to be in my opinion, the top country/rocker artist that he did and we always watched him on tv if we could. I miss him, they don't play his music often enough to suit me-I like the old crowd best-most of the new one's all sound alike...but no one could sound like Johnny Cash just like they can't do Elvis right. I have to say that Elvis came close-but even he couldn't get him exactly either! wjh

I think so too Wanda, although I loved Elvis' version of I Walk the Line. No one can do Cash...he sings from the very core of his being..he's as they say Steady like a train and sharp like a razor. 8)

Up "There" is getting full of bright souls with great, beautiful voices...

I guess Johnny Cash may dress and sing now with the colors of the rainbow, out of joy.

What a privilege to be present in one of their jamm sessions one of these days...! :P
