Hello to all! I haven't been here much lately, but I do check in from time to time. I miss having the time to read all your wonderful posts.

I noticed the author of that article is from Birmingham, AL, where I also happen to live. And she is right in many ways. Southerners are constantly fighting the misperceptions of people from other parts of the country, and Elvis was certainly a source of pride for those of us in this area. I for one am proud to share Elvis's southern heritage. I remember hearing that he worked hard in the movies to remove his southern accent, but it seems to have come back in the 70s when he was no longer making movies. I loved it in songs when he pronounced "can't" as "cain't." :) And boy, is she right to say that he was the embodiment of what we call Southern charm! Goodness knows when the good Lord was giving out charm and good looks, he was not only at the front of the line, but I think he sneaked back for extra!

August 16 is always a bit of a tough day, and I miss him being here, but I am always so grateful for all the good times, laughter, and joy that he still brings to my life.

I have a friend who lives in Kentucky. She has a booth in an antique type store. She said ANYTHING she takes there that is Elvis sells very, very quickly. She said it does not matter if it is a magazine/a book or a record it is sold next time she takes stuff to her booth.
People are loving Elvis in the south, in the west, in the north and in the east. Elvis had something that no other entertainer has ever had and that is a love affair with his audience that was a two-way street.
Elvis love will never go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

A friend who lives in Orange County near the beach, went to see the On Tour
movie tour film etc: that is going around the country- she said it was sold out,
full house to the walls and there were a lot of younger people there, some not here when he was but born after or about the time of his death...they were all
cheering, clapping and having a good time watching and seeing what this Elvis
guy was all about. She didn't hear any bad remarks after ward either...and was
impressed by how many people were actually delighted they had got in to see
him. Some she spoke with had not seen him live other than on tv and they
had a great time with the big screen view and wished they'd been old enough
to see him in Las Vegas... Good news, I think! Especially the fact that those
she spoke with and heard talking didn't think he was fat at all in the On Tour film footage...and they thought he was very ill in the late tour footage...which he was.
