So typical of Elvis to be there for a child! For anyone, really...but children had a special place in his heart. :)

Elvis too, had a difficult childhood...aspects of it were quite awful. It was not all sweetness and light in the Presley household. He chose to emphasis the good, as he forgave his parent much.

I don't feel it appropriate to go into all the details...as he told Wanda and as the Tupelo neighbor lady told her after Elvis' death.

That he was able to rise above it and forgive them...especially his father, is a testament to his soul.

Well, his mother used to lock him in the closet when he was "bad". She also hit him hard enough to knock him down when he called an adult by her first name. (This from the Tupelo neighbor AND Priscilla).

I believe that the reason he was almost obsessive in calling someone just a few years older than himself "sir" or "mam" had to do with this.

His father beat both him and Gladys when he was drunk. Once Vernon stopped excessive drinking he became a much nicer person.

Yes I DID see the two Oprah Katrina shows. I remember the SMILE. :)

On "the tapes" Elvis talks about Lisa quite a bit...how he would start crying when they had to part and Lisa would say to him: "Now Daddy, don't cry. When you cry it makes me cry, and when I get older it is going to ruin my makeup!"

And how she was so "philosophical" as he put it. She would say to him, "Now Daddy, let me tell you how it is...are you listening, Daddy? this is how it is."

He was so proud of her singing, too.

There is one bit when she is an infant, and Elvis has her on his lap while he is talking on the phone. You can't hear her, but he is cooing at her and singing to her and laughing, saying "you faker"! Apparently she was faking sleep.

Hi, I didn't know Donna Presley had a book out. I read what she had to say in her mother's book years ago...about Elvis sitting on the floor cross-legged in front of her when she was a teen and telling her what a bright, beautiful young lady she was and how he would always be there for her. It is one of my faviorte "Elvis stories". 8)

What is the name of her book? I would like to order it.

Yes, Lisa said on a talk show not long ago that "cousins" come out of the woodwork...coming up to her, etc. So that she is pretty cautious to believe any of them now (the ones she doesn't know).
