I have that two part episode. It was well cast and so finely crafted by Landon. I have watched it a number of times over the years and it still brings tears to my heart.
Michael Landon was a gifted actor, writer and director.
The Little House books are what we chose to read aloud to Jeff and Elizabeth the winter of 1984 when my husband was staff reduced for 1 year. We sat by the stove that burns wood, and each evening I read 1-3 chapters aloud--Walter had to do the reading when pa sang because my voice is as flat as a pancake!! Once in awhile Jeff read a chapter or Elizabeth did so it was a grand time as a family.
The books, whether written by Laura Ingalls Wilder or her daughter, Rose---there is still controversy about WHO actually wrote the books---are fine stories to read and talk about and we took as much from the love in the words as did our children.
The poem and the actress playing Julia Sanderson fit perfectly with the story.
Coping is so hard but time does help. I am learning more and more each day about coping as I take each step along the path to find my true spirit in this life.
Marjorie

I'm glad you has brought Michel Landon to the Forum, Marjorie. I have had for a long time the impression that he was a spiritual person, with the intention of apporting positive messages to the world. He worked in that direction and I feel thankful everytime somebody uses his energy, creativity, time, power and money to do this kind of efforts. Behind it, LOVE is always found. And LOVE is the greatest apportation one can do to Life.

Marjorie,

I notice you changed your nickname too. It seems it is time for changes right now! :P

Thanks Amanda. Michael Landon was gifted, I believe, in the ways in which he was allowed to present his abilities to others. I can recall feeling so very sad when the made for television movie aired that Michael had written based on his life while with his mother and father. His father hanging the sheets out the window to let everyone know Michael had "shamed" him again by wetting the bed. THat was so cruel for Michael to endure.....
Michael did not let his rough start in life prevent him from going on in a positive way to impart many moral lessons with the gentle touch that he had and he was funny, too. He and Elvis may have enjoyed each other's sense of humor as I have read that Landon liked to play practical jokes on and off the set of whatever was being filmed.
I changed my name for awhile. I had rewatched the Aloha show a week or so past, and remembered how much I love one certain place in the concert, when Elvis flashes that smile at someone stage left. In 73 his smile was there and it was seeming to be coming straight from his heart.

I remember that smile. I view that concert often.

I didn't know any personal fact about Michael Landon. But I'm not surprised he had a difficult childhood. As I may see it, almost always, to a spiritually developed person corresponds a difficult life. I think we need hard times to stress us to grow.

That's a very good description, Julie. In Spanish there is a saying: "That person has angel" to describe exactly what you mean.

Congratulations Natalie! With that letter, you are possibly opening a way for more to come. :P
