I love this song. Sort of fits in with where my head is at right now.

I first heard this song a few years ago and love it. But I've heard he sang it to Priscilla in a show in Las Vegas with tears streaming down his face, so it makes me sad for him at the same time. I know he always loved her, but I wonder if he ever "got over her" or if his feelings for her ever got in the way of finding someone else to really love.

I feel really so very sad for Elvis too and yes, to me I have a strong sense that he 'carried a torch' for her right until the end of his life to a point and therefore I would say this interfered to a certain extent with his other relationships.

Maybe that's why Linda and Pris didnt like eachother much :? Man, I wonder how Sheila felt when she heard him say "listen Cilla" she was sitting right next to her at the Desert Storm concert right?

Hi Di,

Thanks for sharing that, it's so beautiful. It reminded me of the times Elvis would call me late at night (early morning), sometimes after a show. We would often talk until he fell asleep. then I would just hang up the phone. Those were special times for me. In a tape he made for me that I received after he went to heaven, he told me "he would still talk to me, at night, when it's quiet. If I listen, I could hear his heart talk". I can.

JoAnna I thank you also for sharing this touching and loving mesage with us that Elvis left you on the tape he made. :D So very like him to be able to touch one's very soul with his sweet words. :D

Yes, he had a torch, he knew it and though he tried he couldn't "put it out-it kept on layin' in there (his heart) like a bed of coals left over remindin' of how warm and wonderful things used to be". And he as usual said it was his fault things changed, he expected too much from her, though she tired her best-he wasn't listening.
Elvis was right to the last days of his life, trying to make things better for those he was leaving behind, from the closest of people to the fans he knew would be torn apart inwardly when he was gone. And I will always believe he knew well ahead of the day, that he was dying and nothing rational could stop it at that point in time. They couldn't give him any guarantees that he would be able to get well-with that kind of future, I would have preferred to go fast too. wjh
