This poem was not written for Elvis Presley. It was recited upon the birth of another baby boy who would also become dear and loved by us and by the world, and like Elvis, he would also leave us all while still too very, very young.
We wish to the new child
A heart that can be beguiled
By a flower
That the wind lifts
As it passes.
If the storm breaks for him
May the trees shake for him
Their blossoms down.
In the night that he is troubled
May a friend wake for him
So that his time may be doubled,
And at the end of all loving and love,
May the Man above
Give him a crown.
Petals and blossoms have rained down in the millions from those who still grieve these 29 years since 1977. But grieve no more, for Elvis is with his daddy, his beloved mama and his brother and most of all, I believe, he sits within sight of his First Father. Elvis will be forever young in our hearts and in our minds. He shared a joyous gift with us that has been matched by no other.
Now we celebrate his passing with peace because our broken hearts are beginning to mend and someday very soon we will see him when we also have completed our spiritual journey.
