Elvis on Elvis

"I never met anyone who learned by talking." p#219 from the book Elvis on Elvis

I have read this quote many times and it is absolutely true. We learn when we listen but not when we are talking. My husband is this way. He is quiet but when we return from a function he tells me things that I did not hear because I was always talking to someone.
I hope that I will be able to learn to talk less and to listen more. Our grandson will be two in a couple of months and I listen carefully to each word he says. I write things down that he says or tries to say so that he can read about himself when he is older.
I have often wondered why Gladys did not keep a journal or a baby book so that we could know what Elvis' first word was, when he walked, which tooth came in first and so much more.
I also, like most who love Elvis, wish so very much that he had kept diaries so that his side could be be told from him to us.

The quote is important, not because Elvis said it, but because listening can teach us much that is essential for all of us to learn.

I agree with you, MSue.

Once a wise man that tought me many, many things, asked:

"What do you admire more in another person?"

My answer was: "To talk when it's needed and to be silent when it's needed to be."

It was about 16 years ago and I'm still trying.

Sweet Aloha :D

You´re so right MSue :D

I´m writing my feelings and happenings down for about 3 years now and really it helps.... and I´m glad I´ve learned to do that....
I let my children talk a lot about their feelings... They really love that.... and mostly I write them down..... also for them to read when they are older.... Sometimes I tell them what they said when they were a little bit younger and they really think and talk about it and that´s so SWEET :D

WELL EVEN THOUGH WE ALL INCLUDING ME WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE READ SOMETHING THAT ELVIS HAD WROTE HIMSELF, AT LEAST THANKS TO OUR WANDA SHE AT LEAST DID HAVE OUR ELVIS ON TAPE, SO NOW WE WILL BE ABLE TO KNOW AT LEAST A LITTLE ABOUT ELVIS' THOUGHTS ON THINGS. FAIRYTALE!
WITHOUT A SONG THE DAY WOULD NEVER END, WITHOUT A SONG A MAN AIN'T GOT A FREIND, WITHOUT A SONG. SO I KEEP ON SINGING A SONG.

Every new show

Postby Rainbow Light » Wed Sep 27, 2006 6:21 am

I’ve never gotten over what they call stagefright. I go through it every show. I’m pretty concerned, I’m pretty much thinking about the show. I never get completely comfortable with it, and I don’t let the people around me get comfortable with it, in that I remind them that it’s a new crowd out there, it’s a new audience, and they haven’t seen us before. So it’s got to be like the first time we go on.”

Shows Elvis' concern that he would give his audiences the very best performances which he always did of course!
