"I never met anyone who learned by talking." p#219 from the book Elvis on Elvis
I have read this quote many times and it is absolutely true. We learn when we listen but not when we are talking. My husband is this way. He is quiet but when we return from a function he tells me things that I did not hear because I was always talking to someone.
I hope that I will be able to learn to talk less and to listen more. Our grandson will be two in a couple of months and I listen carefully to each word he says. I write things down that he says or tries to say so that he can read about himself when he is older.
I have often wondered why Gladys did not keep a journal or a baby book so that we could know what Elvis' first word was, when he walked, which tooth came in first and so much more.
I also, like most who love Elvis, wish so very much that he had kept diaries so that his side could be be told from him to us.
The quote is important, not because Elvis said it, but because listening can teach us much that is essential for all of us to learn.
