Tupelo fan club reactivated: Fifty years after the "King of Rock 'n' Roll" played at a fair in his birthplace, the long-defunct Tupelo Elvis Presley Fan Club has been revived. Presley was born Jan. 8, 1935, in a small house in the northeast Mississippi city of Tupelo. He died Aug. 16, 1977, at his Graceland mansion about 100 miles (160 kilometers) away in Memphis, Tennessee. About 20 people showed up earlier this week at the chapel on the birthplace grounds to get the club going. Jane Riley, who helped organize the Elvis Presley Festival in Tupelo in June, said about 400 fans from around the world have signed up as members.

"It's just amazing the common denominator that Elvis Presley and his life and his music provides," Riley said.

Local members, some dressed in Elvis regalia, elected officers and voted on bylaws at their meeting Tuesday. Barbara Mallory was elected president of the club, reprising her role as leader of the 1956 fan club named the Elvis Presley Sweethearts. Riley brought an enlarged photo of the original 1956 group.

"We were a bunch of teenage girls who were crazy about Elvis," said Mallory, who formed the club with cousins and friends. Although the group disbanded after its members matured, "all of us still remain Elvis fans." (News, Source: Charmaine Voisine)

Thanks for the link you put elsewhere, Amanda re the smileys! Sorry to sound spectacularly dumb here! but do I just get the image code that refers to the smiley and press the Img button? Might get the hang of this image posting thing - one day maybe?!! :lol:

Sue,

If you use the Planet Smilies, that is the procedure: copy the code or URL, paste it in your reply and press the Img button on top of the reply box.

There are other webs where you directly copy the code and nothing else, because they include already IMG at the start and the end of the URL.

It's really easy. Only a very little practice is needed. :wink:
