It was nice to see him happy and relaxed and in Hawaii, which he loved so much! I have to admit, sometimes it's hard to believe how much he changed in the last five years or so of his life...I don't mean that in a bad way, but obviously you can see the difference...He always looked great to me, though!

how he changed

Postby Wanda June Hill » Thu Jun 29, 2006 9:21 pm

He looked good in 1973-just a little older and maybe wiser and then in 74 he was looking kind of tired and had to really try to get that zest going. And 75 he started to go down hill physically, 76 he pulled it back some and was looking better but he did nearly 100 shows almost back to back that year and he was worn out...then he went out and did New years Eve, the longest performance of his career-I think about 7 shows more then some time off, then 55 in a row, and 2 months later he was gone. When he gave up trying to have a "normal home life" the light in his eyes began to dim and the further along he went, the less it burned. It was physical as well as emotional-the combination was too much for him to beat. I think he knew his time was short and he crammed as much into it as he could-then he just sort of let things fall where they may those last few months. But he did what he wanted, what he thought he had to do, and that is what he had always done his entire life. And he did it so well, right to the end. wjh

I wonder why he didn't just take a break for a while...I'm not putting him down and I know he loved performing and loved the live audience, but maybe if he took some time off, he may have felt better, more rested and relaxed...

He did a lot of shows the last 3-4 years of his life...and to quote Wanda
And 75 he started to go down hill physically, 76 he pulled it back some and was looking better but he did nearly 100 shows almost back to back that year and he was worn out.

I'm sure Elvis knew he wasn't in good health, so I wonder why he didn't stop and maybe try and get better...It's just someting I think about sometimes, but I know it's not right to say "what if"...

Why didn't he try and take off-

Postby Wanda June Hill » Fri Jun 30, 2006 7:16 pm

I guess he didn't have enough money on hand to do that and he had to keep working to pay debts and salaries etc; and he was too alturistic to say sorry fellas, you're on your own for a while. He thought for a few months he was going to make it, that he had a chance I know he did, he felt better, what ever was done seemed to be working, and then he had to go back to work and he went down fast. Bleeding from his guts, so much people saw his "bed full of blood" Ed Parker, Patty Perry and another lady all saw this according to them, and I know that Elvis called a friend who was a doctor and was almost in a panic because he was bleeding so much he was scared and didn't know what to do. He had forgotten that he should not take asprin and he had for his head hurt and he didn't want to take pain killers as it contributed to blocking his colon up. He had taken several asprin which triggered bleeding. I guess he was taken to emergency and they gave him something to stop it-I don't know about that-I only know what his doctor friend said about his phone call at 4:15 am from a hotel room where he had spent the night after doing a show....that was during the 55 one nighters he did just before he died in August. No one wanted to go back on tour again, Elvis didn't want to go either, but he didn't have enough money to meet payroll and pay the bills so he was going out again-but he didn't think he was going to make it through it. Said that in fact, but whatever happened would be all right, he said. He really didn't care at that point...he just wanted to stay home...apparently he had not even packed all his books...and he was due to leave out that day the 16th. His books always went on tour...always. wjh

I SUPPOSE EVERYONE SEEN OR HEARD THAT THE PRESIDENT OF THE US AND THE PRIME MINISTER OF JAPAN WERE AT GRACELAND TODAY, AND LISA MARIE AND PRIS. WERE THERE TO. I READ WHAT THEY HAD ON YAHOO, AND I THOUGHT OR I HOPED THAT AFTER I HAD READ MOST OF WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT ELVIS, THAT JUST MAYBE THE DREEDED DIED OF DRUG ABUSE WAS FINALLY GONE. BUT NOT HARDLY AT THE VERY END OF THE STORY, THE REPORTER HAD TO PUT, ELVIS DIED OF HEART PROBLEMS AND DRUG ABUSE. I REALLY THOUGHT FOR ONCE IN 30 YEARS, IT WAS GOING TO STOP,BUT NOT YET. BARB!
WITHOUT A SONG THE DAY WOULD NEVER END, WITHOUT A SONG A MAN AIN'T GOT A FREIND, WITHOUT A SONG. SO I KEEP ON SINGING A SONG.

No not yet, Barb and in the light of everything Wanda's said above about Elvis' illnesses, the bed full of blood at times etc, the fact that people can still keep coming out with this garbage is really just too bad!! :!:

Yes, it's sad.

The saddest thing is that so many times, so many people CHOOSE to thing wrong, to do wrong.

The consecuences for themselves and for the world are those of unhappyness, pain and suffering.

If only each one of us on Earth commited only one day to possitive - the same day for everybody- things would change FOREVER. Possitive is such a strong force!

In the top one, I do see a resemblance of Priscilla in Ginger. I can see why Elvis was drawn to her.

Laurie,

indeed she looked like Pris a lot.
