ELVIS APPEAL IS TIMELESS SAYS NEW EPE MARKETER
News added - 04/10/06
So says entertainment marketing veteran Paul Jankowski, who has returned to his hometown of Memphis as
Elvis Presley Enterprises' first chief marketing officer.
"The state of the brand is very, very healthy, with a great opportunity to grow," said Jankowski, 40, who will
oversee all aspects of global brand development. "If you look at some of the recent (corporate advertising)
campaigns, there's proof of that statement."
Consider the new national campaign for the Honda CR-V, featuring a remixed version of the King's "Burning
Love."
"The Honda commercial is a great example: That skews very young," said Jankowski, who was president of
Access Marketing Services, a Nashville-based company providing brand development in corporate, sports
and entertainment business.
He said more national ad campaigns with "very well-known brands" will utilize Elvis in 2007.
It's all about expanding the Elvis base beyond the older fans who grew up buying his records and attending
his shows.
Jankowski, a graduate of Christian Brothers High School and the University of Tennessee, previously worked
in media mogul Robert F.X. Sillerman's organization. In 2004, Sillerman paid $100 million for an 85 percent
stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises.
During his career, Jankowski has created promotions for such performers as Tom Petty, Elton John, B.B.
King, Tim McGraw and Nelly.
Now his focus is all things Elvis. On that subject, Jankowski said he wants to make the connection between
Elvis and "the doors he blew off," and today's relationship between pop and hip-hop.
Jankowski is based in Memphis and reports to CEO and president Jack Soden.
"The Elvis business continues to grow and thrive," Soden said in a statement, "and now that EPE is part of
(Sillerman's) CKX family, the opportunities have multiplied. Paul's extensive experience in many different
areas makes him uniquely qualified for our company, and a good fit with our current stellar marketing, sales
and communications team."
EPE already had a marketing department, but the CMO position is new.
