Song choices/just an idea

Postby Rainbow Light » Sun Mar 12, 2006 4:15 am

While, obviously, this is no longer possible, I am interested to know what songs would anyone like Elvis to have sung that he didn't record? These can come from any style of singing - whatever you want as we know Elvis was an amazing singer and just SO versatile, could've done anything so just putting the thought out there!

I know it's a cop-out but I'm gonna have to go away and think about it  though I know I'd include some of the songs from two musicals: West Side Story and Phantom of the Opera and also a beautiful gospel spiritual: Steal Away To Jesus.

Just to add to this post: a few more for you - don't know some of the original artists though but will mention as and when I do ok?

Ain't No Sunshine - blues style song
Signed, Sealed and Delivered, I'm Yours (Stevie Wonder - Motown era)
I Get the sweetest feeling - Jackie Wilson
The Prayer (Duet between American singer Josh Groban and ?)
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - jive/rock n'roll by British group, Queen
Young Girl - Gary Puckett
Stand By Me - Ben King
American Pie - Don McLean
Moon River - ?
Three Times A Lady (Lionel Richie/Commodores)
Irish song - Carrickfergus - ?

A few of these I realise were sung when Elvis was alive but still, doesn't really matter - the point is, with his talent I believe he could have sung anything he put his heart into and would've been interesting just to hear how he would've done them. Not too long a list you think?!

All for now ...... thanks, Sue

For me, The Wind Beneath My Wings (Bet Midler). Everytime I hear it I think of him recording it. It is a beautiful song that a really good voice like Bet's or Elvis' can do so much with. Also, I believe he wanted so much for Priscilla to be that for him.

Oh my. This is something that I have spoken about for a long time now. My dream song is "O Holy Night." Him on piano---alone.

It would be beautiful. :(

Sincerely,
Victoria

Song choices/just an idea/possible duets

Postby Rainbow Light » Mon Mar 13, 2006 9:58 am

Thanks Maia and Victoria for these and yes, these would be beautiful and know Elvis would have done justice to them too, such a shame huh? :(

Think I'm going to extend this idea just that bit further (now she tells us  ) too, to ask if there are any songs as duets that you'd have liked to have heard Elvis and anyone done from past to current and include the name of the other artist too. While, to be honest, I prefer Elvis' voice alone anyway, it's just an idea/suggestion that I thought I'd 'throw out there'!

re: duet

Ok..that would definately be, in my opinion, a duet with Barbara Streisand. I think they would sound beautiful together. Can't think of a song in that sense, though. Will try to think about it further.

re duet

The only 2 people I can think of to hand are Whitney Houston (pre-Bobby Brown association days!) and from the past, Judy Garland. But as to the songs, not sure yet either.

More on the duets!

Postby Rainbow Light » Fri Mar 17, 2006 7:39 am

Don't know if anyone's familiar with the following two ladies?

Elvis with British soul singer, Joss Stone on a Sixties soul classic - maybe Stand By Me?

Elvis with American singer, Shemekia Copeland on either blues or gospel.

Duets

Postby Rainbow Light » Sun Apr 09, 2006 3:11 am

Not sure if you guys will be familiar with singer Annie Lennox? She has not been on the music scene in a little while (well not as far as I know) but she used to be with a group in the eighties by the name of 'Eurythmics'? She has a very strong voice and think a duet with Elvis would have proved most interesting and pleasant to hear but can't place a song at the moment.

Duet with Toni Braxton on 'Unbreak my Heart', a pretty ballad I heard some while ago and think would be beautiful.

I prefer Elvis singing alone, as opposed to doing any duets.

One song (of several) that that I would love to have heard him sing is "Down From His Glory". This is a spiritual song, sung to the same tune as "Its Now or Never", and was written in 1921 by William Booth-Clibborn.

Oh, and I agree with Maia about "Wind Beneath My Wings". Can almost hear him singing that one. Also, would like to hear him singing "The Rose".

Another one -- "Ol' Man River" of Showboat. Bet he would have fun trying to sing that song as low as he possibly could. I know he loved that bass sound.

Thanks for sharing some more song choices with us, Laurie! Yes, it would have been interesting and fun for him to do 'Old Man River' with the bass part. I am not familiar with the song 'The Rose' or the gospel one you mentioned but still, there are so many songs he could have done and would have been great to hear him sing.

I prefer Elvis to have sung alone as he had just such a wonderful voice, he didn't need anyone else to sing with him, truly! Was just an idea, must admit while I've heard other male voices, NOBODY will ever be able to match up or compare to what he had but then it wasn't JUST the VOICE with Elvis of course, more the WHOLE man! including who he was, the beautiful soul and character he always was! That
special something he, alone, had!
