On July 26, 10am local Honolulu time, the Elvis Aloha statue was revealed. With this ceremony, the city kicks off his 30-day celebration to remember Elvis. The statue is placed on the site where the legendary satellite concert broad casted all around the world in 1973.
The statue does not have a lei. That may sound strange, because the lei is the symbol of the local citizens to welcome their guests. It’s only for technical reasons that they did not ad a lei. Because of the used material and the process of making, it’s not possible to recreate the flowers in a natural looking way. Without a doubt, visitors are willing to put their own lei around the statue, but that’s going to be hard to do: the pedestal will be 36” and the statue will have a height of 9 feet.
