finding graceland dvd review

Postby juliepresleyfan » Fri Aug 03, 2007 4:16 am

hi girls have started to wade through my back log of a few dvds i brought ages ago and watched the movie FINDING GRACELAND.
i know sue was not too keen on this dvd when she had one , but heres my review.

Finding graceland is an unusual film to say the least, and harvey keitel was not exactly a good choice to play someone who says he is Elvis.

he isnt exactly Elvisy gorgeous i know sue , but i think its part of the film .

I belive and here goes my enterpretation of its meaning .

well the Elvis character is supposed to be in my oppinion , indeed Elvis .
but his soul was placed in john burrows body at some point, he is in my belief an angel , you may notice he only says he is Elvis never Elvis presley, i think Elvis soul was put in the kind of person who looks the exact opposite of him in life, so to not detract from his good deeds he does in the film , after all people would go mad with excitement, if he was put as he was before , which would i suppose get in the way of him righting wrongs in the film.

Everyone in the film upon getting help from Elvis (harveys character) they all say he is Elvis .
even tho he looks nothing like his former self.

i notice he never explains how he came to come back from the dead , never once mentions it.
i for one loved the film when i watched it , it even made me cry when they went inside the real gracelands , i sat there blubbering like a baby.

prob as thats where my heart wants to go , and is constantly breaking a little not to be able to go there , darn money wish i had some.
i truely believe its where my heart wants to be just once will be enough for this old gal , i bet elvis thinks me daft but thats why i was crying sort of, and to think of Elvis not being there .

i promise you Elvis if i indeed ever get that one chance of a lifetime, i am coming to see you and the lovely american souls ive always heard about.
my dad says i could get shot to death , i can understand his fear but do not many brits arrive home perfectly alive and well hundreds of em ,lucky buggers .
when naomal was out there all he could say was he didnt like america and did not want to be there , well i tried not to show it to him on the phone but i was as mad as heck with him, hoiw dare he knock somewhere i want desperately to visit .

America and England are i belive as close knit countries , yes ive heard of us brits getting spat on but thats not the norm , and i know in my heart that you americans accept us brits with open arms , ive heard lovely stories of warm welcomes .

well USA i hope you dont mind this silly old BRIT coming to your shores someday , i want to see Elvis home and say hello to him at his final resting place , oh and not forgetting get a chance to eat a few of your gorgeous candy , boy do you guys know how to make sweets lol :D :D  , by the way have any of you by chance sampled the reeses limited edition peanut butter and banana cups Elvis style yet, cant get em here she says flooding with tears :( :( :( lol

would have loved to have a limited edition tin of em with elvis on the tin
but oh well , today at least i found a uk sweet importer that is getting some of em to try so thats ok i guess isnt it.
yes sue will get you a pack so dont you worry none ok
they arec selling in small packs , me and my sis love em lol
lucky old usa , you got Elvis and peanut butter cups , we brits have the beatles , rain , and the silly old queen lol
wanna swap he he , humours ok just a bit daft he he
bye for now gotta go
luv ju
till i meet you again on this sweet heavenly site adios amigos
and love always my sweet soul sisters :D

Thank you for posting this review of the film FINDING GRACELAND, Julie! Your reviews are very well worded, saying how you feel and think about the movie in question but also giving people the chance to see, think, listen and decide for themselves, that comes out very balanced just right!

Thank you also in advance for the Reeses banana creme filled Elvis sweets, yes woud love to try this, sounds pretty good!

Finding Graceland

Postby Wanda Mc » Sat Aug 04, 2007 1:50 am

I've seen most, if not all of this movie, and I agree that Harvey Keitel is no Elvis! But I did enjoy it overall. One is left to believe at the end that he is in fact Elvis in some way, shape or form. I do like the scene where they show up at Graceland during the candlelight vigil. I wish and hope and pray that Elvis truly does know how much he is still loved and remembered, esp. when Wanda JH and others have said he was so afraid that no one would remember him for long. How could we forget him? :D

As for Brits being welcome in the US, I've never seen or heard of anyone expressing or showing animosity for our British cousins. If it HAS happened, please accept my apologies for the inexcusable conduct of a few people. Rest assued, it is NOT the sentiment of the country as a whole or a large part, and you would certainly be very welcome in Memphis! And yes, there's a good chance you would return alive and well! Yes, guns are more prevalent in the US (esp. in the South), but don't wander down dark alleys in major cities in the middle of the night and nothing is likely to happen!

I hope that some day you will get the chance to visit Graceland. I did 3 years ago, and I tell you, the feeling of walking through Elvis's front door, feeling how it would've been to be there with him, and seeing all his gold records and memorabilia and stage costumes...Oh my gosh! I thought I would hit the floor when I turned a corner and saw the black leather suit from 1968! :D

I enjoyed the movie and for some reason while watching it at times forgot I was loooking at Harvey. I think in my mind it was Elvis I was seeing with all the good deeds, etc.

i agree with that di

yes di my sentiments exactly , i too while watching the finding graceland movie i did indeed forget he wasnt elvis .
yes the bit where he went into real gracelands and cried out nobodys here anymore , had me blubberring (crying) .
i guess i was thinking what if elvis ghost went back and found it empty, so i cried like a baby , all in all i did think that elvis soul and spirit was in the characters body .
not for real you understand but as part of the plot im talking about just to clarify for you , he dissapeared at the end i think , but i enjoyed the movie and was so glad i gave it a go, its a good one, leaves you feeling all wrapped up in elvis love , and that in life maybe there are angels out there after all.
after all lots of em dwell on the Elvis lighted candle site do they not :D :D lol, i mean it .

this site i might add lifted my spirits and all tho my probs havent gone away they are easier to bear , and im more positive so thank you girls
luv ya lots

its ok wanda mc , i agree with you americans on the whole are wonderfull people full of life and vigour .
my dad says why do they whoop and holler a lot , i say they just love life and their country and show it enthusiastically lol, us brits are more reserved he he the old stiff upper lip old bean he he , always thought we should be more like you all.

i do believe this old country is picking up some of your ways tho lol
i love the uk and always stand to the queens anthem lol, like my mum always has , would love to meet you all in usa one day, its my dream to all meet outside gracelands and all go in together as one and spend the day in the vicinity laughing and swapping jokes and getting to know one another ah a lovely thought is it not .

maybe if i win the lottery , yeah some chance huh :D but nice idea tho.
so dont worry i know a lot of americans are warm and welcoming with the ole soutern charm lol
so not to worry .
luv julie
