Softly as I leave you

Postby Sarena » Wed Sep 26, 2007 4:08 am

Softly I will leave you softly
long before you miss me
long before your arms can beg me stay
for one more hour
for one more day
After all the years
I can't bear the tears
to fall so softly
so softly I will leave you then
I will leave you then...

I listened again to that beautiful rendition
of Elvis singing that very touching song.
And as I did I wondered whether he also CHOOSE ( like the man dying in the hospital in the song, who wrote the lines on a note-pad beside his wife, who just dozed off to sleep) to leave ALONE.
If he hadn't the other person or persons by his side wouldn't have let him go...
As we know Elvis never liked to sleep alone, but he left this world soflty and alone of human company, but to greet the spiritual company on the Other Side...
These were my thoughts as I heard him sing that special song.

I actually just listened to this song earlier this morning Sarena, but I just NOW came across your post. :o :D I really love how beautifully he and Sherrill performed this song together. The way Elvis so softly and tenderly speaks the words while Sherrill is singing them and then the sweet harmony at the end-just truly amazing and so moving too. :D Elvis had such a beautifully soft voice when he spoke and yet could always add the right amount of dramatic emphasis to something whenever it was needed. :D His singing voice is just absolutely incredible and phenomonal but I love just listening to him talk too! :D

I listen very often to this song -I have it in the selection I play in my car's player- and I always think the same you do, Sarena.

I agree totally also, with what you say Jewel and Mari! :)

...and I don't know a thing
in this whole wide world
that's worse than being alone...

I found this rare life version of Where noone stands alone on YOU-TUBE and it's very touching. I always loved that song!
