FOR MAMA

I look back and see my mother
A lady, who,I loved so much.
For me there could be no other
Than the lady with the gentle touch.

Her life was not so easy
There was a lot of grief to bear,
But she always rode above it
With her love, she was always there.

She never had much money
But she never did complain
She'll always be my honey
My love for her will never wain

You know I think about the pictures that show Gladys and rarely is she ever smiling. I think she must have troubled & worried her soul about Elvis all the time, even before he became famous. I'm sure she must have been happy at times, but seldom see it reflected in photos.

And the one of her, Vernon, & Elvis in his army uniform --gosh she looks so deeply sad in that picture. I can see why Elvis would want to uplift the spirits of his mother, to make her happy.

I agree with you, Laurie as regards the above. There must have been times when Gladys did smile but I have seen few of her smiling in photos. Think she must have been worried and troubled about Elvis so much but yes, even before he became famous. Probably concerned with all the poverty they experienced I would imagine that would affect her a fair bit also.

WORRY ALONE CAN KILL A PERSON, BUT EVEN THOUGH SHE DID HAVE ALOT OF WORRIES. I THINK WHEN SHE NEEDED TO BE STRONG SHE WAS, AND I THINK ELVIS GOT ALOT OF HIS STRENGHT FROM HIS MOM. FAIRYTALE!

I CAN ALSO SEE YOUR POINT ON THIS FAIRYTALE; GRANTED SHE WAS A LADY WITH MUCH STRENGTH AND ELVIS DID INHERIT THIS FROM HER. ALSO BELIEVE AS A SPIRITUALLY BASED FAMILY THEY WOULD HAVE PRAYED AND PRAISED THE LORD OFTEN. THIS IS WHERE THEY WOULD HAVE GAINED STRENGTH ALSO TO CONTINUE WITH THEIR LIVES?....
