Hi Wanda,

Re: 2005 book: "Elvis By The Presleys" and 1985 "Elvis and Me" -- in the last chapters of her books Priscilla says that Sri Daya Mata, President of Self Realization Fellowship (of which Elvis was a member) had written several letters to him. Her letters went unanswered so she contacted Priscilla and said that she was trying to get in touch with Elvis. Priscilla said that she thought Vernon was throwing the letters away before Elvis saw them. So in a phone conversation Priscilla told Elvis that Daya Mata was trying to get in touch with him. He was touched by this (according to Priscilla) but he never called or wrote to Daya Mata.

Did Vernon throw the letters away (before Elvis saw them) or was Elvis getting them, reading them, but obviously not responding, even after Priscilla mentioned it to him?

Any thoughts on this?

Hi Joy, I finally have my computer back and it's actually working! I had some kind of eating bug/virus that was messing up everything and was not detectable by my security system-anyway everything is clean and I have different programs than before so have to do some learing.
As for Vernon throwing the letters away-he would have done that. He was so afraid that Elvis was going to be taken in by them and he'd give all his money away etc: and join a "cult" etc: and so everything like that would have been trashed and Elvis wouldn't have known. Elvis had talkied with his dad about such things but he knew his father did them anyway so he just used other methods of getting things-but he might not have had the time to do it, and too, he was stressed to his limit and was being put down by all around him pretty much for his beliefs so he might have just not responded or maybe he tried and couldn't reach her-we'll never know.
He really liked the lady and enjoyed the whole experience of being at her retreat and the beautiful grounds and the fact he was just another seeker when there. No one bothered him. It's too bad that his family members were not inclined to see where his heart truly was and that he needed such things in his life-and people who understood that. At least he had Larry Geller. And Jerry Schilling seemed to be more inclined that way in realizing where Elvis was coming from at times. A few were there for him and did the best they could, Elvis just didn't open up much it seems, he must have felt he couldn't and maybe didn't want to have to deal with it and their thoughts. Whatever, I am happy Priscilla is thinking more along the lines she is now and understanding more about where her Elvis truly was at within his heart and inner being. He is happy about that, I'm sure. wjh

Joy, I would like to quote from Larry Geller's new book "Leaves of Elvis' Garden" concerning your question:

"Elvis maintained his connection with Daya Mata over the years, frequently calling her for advice and guidence. When his marriage to Priscilla ended in 1972, he asked if he could see her privately. "There's no hiding from her, Lawrence, that's for sure", he told me later ."The minute I walked into her rom she knew exactly where I was at. We just sat togetzer for a while, first not talking at all, and then meditating. She knew I was hurting without my saying a word, and she didn't judge me or ask me questions; just held my hands. It was so beautiful, like she was giving me love and strength with her eyes and her touch.`'Course she didn't let me off scot-free. She said my mind and my spirit would be fine, as I meditate and grow calmer, but she was concerned that I was neglecting my body. I promisd her I would work on it, but let's face it, that's one area where I need some serious help. I'd like to see her again, but I know she'd come down heavy on me for not doing what she wanted me to."
Daya Mata knew , of course, knew why Elvis didn't see her again. So, she reached out to him through me. "Tell Elvis he is always in my prayers. And tell him not to forget the threefold plan: body, mind, and spirit."
Elvis' eyes brightened when I gave him her message. "I know she's with me; I feel her presence."

So I feel that the inner communion between Elvis and Daya Mata was constant til the end, even though he didn't get her letters due to the sad circumstances.....

Great post! I don't have a copy of Larry's book now-he's supposed to send me one signed etc; to me but so far I bought one and sent it to a friend...after I read it but I can't recall well enought to quote from it so thanks a lot for that peice...it pretty much says it all and that's great for everyone to read. wjh

It is so GREAT and WONDERFUL to have you back with us again dearest Wanda and am so happy for you that your computer problems have been resolved!! You were very missed and like you said, prayers have been answered! I would also like to thank you for your very insightful answer to Joy's question, and sweet Sarena thank you also dear one for providing the very helpful quote from Larry's new book! I am so looking forward to getting it and like Wanda said, what you quoted pretty much says it all. I feel that even due to circumstances at that time in Elvis' life, he was still very much connected to and in touch with Daya Mata in spirit, heart and mind. A connection and contact like that is often times alot more PRESENT and stonger than a physical one.
